Please go and lay down in a darkened room and take a Valium.
No, I'm not on the PR machine. I'm simply trying to give a balanced view of things. I will say it again, perhaps a bit louder, ANY FAULT ON ANY VEHICLE IS ONE TOO MANY. I'm just trying to make the point that when LR is mentioned in the press, it seems that part of their brief is that they MUST question reliability. Now whether that is justified os open to debate. You would say "yes", many others would disagree. We have a 2011 Mini Cooper D. You can read press articles until the cows come home (well you can around here anyway), and they all go banging on positively about the refinement and build quality. Quite honestly, ours is s**t, and is something LR would have been proud of building in the 80's.
I totally agree that Forum are the best place for information, but it may surprise you to know that if you go on any forum you will find members with faults. Yes, it really surprised me too! Have a look at the Mini2 forum for instance.
Another thing we do agree on is that LR's Quality Control is virtually non-existent. The problem is that they have it too easy at the moment (again).

THIS FORUM is THE ONLY reliable source
...and this thread is about the D4
The key indicator about reliability is easy .....LR's warranty book allocation is slightly less now than it was in 2008/9 when they built 75% less vehicles. PR exercise ? I don't think so 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

As an external observer/independent tester! (and with them, not for them!)
Why the personal abuse?

Please note that I AM NOT an "external observer/independent tester!" I am a D3 Owner who 'has had' issues, now resolved. I have NO experience of the D4, my input was relating to the LR PR machine quote, nothing else, so I will leave it there, I feel I have explained my feelings, hopefully you understood them.
I guess the horrors of my initial ownership just reared their ugly head and the b llshit I got from LR at the time, so much so I left it in a car park for 6mths I was so p ed off with it, made up with it now and love it
Have a great day

I also have a D3 which has had issues. It was bought (probably like yours) out of my own pocket, and yes, I was hacked off when after three days of ownership the first EGR failed. I thought your posts related to the D4 as per the OP, but just read your original post and saw you did say D3.
Only time will tell I suppose as to whether the long term reliability of the D4 is better (and it needs to be), but so far the signs are looking good.
You too have a nice day.

Had my D4 for 18 months......superb!
Just about to change for latest model and if that is as good (and why shouldn't it be?)then I'm happy.

Interesting to compare now with the same stage of D3 life, i.e. 6 months til the first ones go out of warranty. ISTR recall quite a few peeps were very worried about running the D3s outside of warranty, some bailed from memory. Doen't seem to be the case with the D4 but then the availability of warranties is a bit better understood than it was back at the same stage. Certainly the D4 seems to be better screwed together but with added complexity which could be the Achilles Heel. Certainly will be interesting to see how the turbo arrangement pans out post warranty, certainly that's following the family traditions. Whilst this forum attracts fault reporting, I also know a few peeps with D4s outside cyberworld and their experience have been pretty good, only one red triangle even between them.
Would a D4 tempt me? No as had too much grief with 3 x D3s. That's not just a reflection on the car's, it's also the inability of the dealers to fix what were fairly major problems, like shutting down repeatedly, often in the fast lane. If I was to buy a LR product the only one that would interest me is a FFRR but that's way outside my price range for a new car. Besides, enjoying my newly chosen brand and it's 50mpg.

Wash your mouth out!! This is the wagon of choice. Bit grubby there but being so used to dealer washing the D3 when in for stuff I'd forgotten cars need washing by their owners. 10 months old, 8k miles, 47.6mpg and not a thing gone wrong with it.

Must say the new F10 touring looks superb. As the D4 enters its final year of warranty abandoning ship had enteredd my mind and a month ago I nearly did for a new 530d touring m sport... But I can't bring myself to sell the D4. I can't see it going anywhere for a LONG time Even with its diesel habit and tax!!2023 Ineos Grenadier 3.0 Diesel Commercial

DG, if I had the energy I'd throw something at you but don't so I won't. Knackered after visit to the centre of pain & suffering, the gym.
Micky, 530d would be a good choice, they certainly rave about it on TG.
