Display ramps

New (to me) ramps, makes working underside easier! This weeks jobs are to keep up with corrosion protection.

Must admit I've eyed up the 2 or 3 sets sitting unloved near a dealer in Salford and thought about enquiring if they were up for grabs ... but I have nowhere to store them 😕

True.

These are sold as display ramps, and personally I wouldn't be happy working underneath them, as to me they are not substantial enough, especially if the vehicle on them was 'pulled & pushed' about.

In a similar way a lifting chain or strap is rated at less than the same item for pulling, safety allowances would be greater for a 'working beneath' ramp as opposed to a 'display' one.

Only my thoughts, as they do look like the answer to many situations, and I have looked into them myself, but overall I thought better of it.

Oddly that was my thinking. I would be really twitchy working underneath them, but then I've been trapped under a car that fell off jacks when in my youth and knew everything. Rolling Eyes Laughing

I agree... I prefer my solution even it's not much room under.

For the OPs purpose they appear to be ideal, but for general repairs I'm not sure about them to be honest.

I think I'd want to have a good look at the ones I was buying and make my own mind up about laying under 2.7tns of D3/D4 on them.

I'm also wondering if the height could be awkward for some things.
Too high to lay under the car and work with arms extended upwards.
But too low to stand, and maybe even kneel, underneath and work.

Some interesting stuff here:

I too have considered the safety aspects as I value my life as much as the next person. The SWL is 3.5 tonnes on this type of ramp and as not all the weight of the car is on the ramp I have no problem working underneath them. If however I stop posting on the forum at some point in the near future you know my confidence either in the SDV6 engine or the ramps was misplaced!

I'm sure what we all want to see is a video of you driving on and tipping them to the flat.

Hi,

I think they would come in very handy Thumbs Up

you could always get the welder out and add some extra bracing/triangulation such as from those rear legs back to the pivot point Question
