Dodgy D3 on Ebay

Has anyone seen the car below listed on Ebay. Very strange as this was the first D3 I ever saw on the road, it was in the summer of 2004 at Strensham services and I took a photo of it. At that time it had a laptop wired into the dash and other gadgets with engineers driving it.

If this is a pre production car, how on earth have these guys got it to sell?

Are you sure ?

These would be scrapped by LR so they don't get into the public domain... no part of it at all...

Also at 10,000 miles its very low mileage for a test vehicle.

Just called my wife to check the number and positive. The cars would have gone to Environ for crushing which is the agency that all Ford Family use but this one has escaped. It's a strage spec isn't it.

It was around the time of launch so it wasn't a covered up test vehicle or anything, I think they were just out doing some tests, they weren't trying to hide or anything.

Strange. I'll try and get the photo scanned over the weekend and post it on the Gallery.

Oliver,
Are you saying dodgy as to legality, specification or reliability?
Many of the early D3s have specifications that don't tie up to standard, so that's not a surprise (nor is the near empty fuel gauge on a V8...)
If it was a test vehicle, then is there any indication that it would be less reliable than other early vehicles?
Are you concerned that there may be some impropriety in the chain of ownership, so that a purchaser might not get full title? Surely that is the risk in buying any second hand car - choose your method of payment, source of car and/or indemnity policy as you see fit.
(as for selling, the recent story of forged banker's drafts should put everyone on notice who sells privately).

Think I can buy this to replace my smashed up Disco 1 V8 off roader? My wife would slit my throat if I even thought such thoughts! Crying or Very sad

Was the SE such a low spec (cloth, no Say Nav, basic HiFi) back in those days? Looks lower spec than the missus's S.

Hi DrLEX.

I'm saying dodgy because I was lead to understand that pretty much all 04 plated cars especially those with a number plate staring with a B,V or a K were in fact pre-production cars and therefore would not be sold to retail customers. I'm not implying that the dealer is not genuine just that this history of this car is strange and I wonder how it has been released for retail.

As an 04 it must have been pre pro, but lots were given out to people to drive for a few months. There were lots of 04s at Gaydon, I even saw one of the late camo'd D3s that was on a W plate (white) why that should be still around I don't know.
