teXan, could this really be true with MOST?
The screenshots looks very integrated

It does not directly integrate. You have to use the audio output of the large screen to connect to your AUX input of the factory radio system. This solution from China requires you to keep all the existing radio and screen electronics in order to integrate. The RRS forum post linked above details all this. I am also under the impression that this kit will not work with the vehicles simple display. You need to actually link the factory screen electronics to the aftermarket screen with the ribbon cable. So you essentially detach the original LCD from the factory electronics and the new chinese screen basically allows for the original screen signal to be displayed on it.

Australia 2012 Discovery 4 TDV6 Base 5 Seat Auto Nara BronzeDiscovery 4

Britpart have two offerings for the Discovery 4:
DA2666 Double DIN Fitting Kit <https>
and DA1921 Double DIN Fitting Kit <https>
The difference is that DA1921 retains the visual parking display.

Which look to just be Britpart reselling Connects2's Installation Kit products:
CTKLR09 <https>
and CTKLR10 <https> respectively with the same visual vehicle warning park assist functionality difference between the pair.

They're also available under the Aerpro brand as FP8409K Installation Kit to Suit Landrover discovery 4 black <https>.

The dash plastics part is available separately from Connects2 under part number CT23LR08 <https> (but lacks all of the electrical interfaces to make it actually work) and installation instructions are available from their website at <http>.
Page 4 details the modification required of cutting the centre bar behind the dash that would limit the ability to restore it back to the factory audio system.

Where it gets really confusing is what actual vehicles these support as they don't seem to support all.
Connects2 and Aerpro state "Note: Only compatible with stereos that have a front face dimension of 178mm x 96mm."
Connects2 also then list in the Vehicle Compatibility table Discovery IV (With Basic Display) <https> - I don't believe this to be true as the Basic Display is smaller than the front face dimensions specified.
Aerpro also state: "Wiring Information No "plug n play" solution for vehicles without clock as yet. Kit and Infodapter do not suit." <https>

I think the fundamental problem with this product is that they have developed it for the wrong range of Discovery 4 vehicles. It's comparable only with the higher spec setups - these are setups that already included reverse cameras etc. so have less incentive to upgrade. It's the lower spec vehicles that cannot have a reverse camera fitted to the factory screen etc. that would have an actual desire to upgrade.
Having spoken to Cameron (Cambo) at Old Jaguar - Australia <https>, who are well experienced with retro fitting electronic equipment and upgrading Land Rovers, he advised:
Quote:
I looked at these when they first came out, the wiring interface in the kit is only suitable for the high-spec system, with factory touchscreen, and MOST fibre optics, not the low spec system. It's a useless product.
Problem is the Aerpro harness has the connectors for the high-spec system, and a MOST fibre optic interface. The low-spec system is totally different.
You can't just "adapt" to the Lo-Line system, it users CAN between the head unit, screen and amplifier.
The only option is to add a screen with audio into the factory AUX input (what naviplus does), or do a full system with new amplifiers as well as the head unit / screen.

Personally I love the idea of double DIN headunits and being able to easily changes technology developed during the life of the vehicle. I have an Alpine Halo 9 in my Discovery 2 and it wouldn't have only been in the wildest dreams when that vehicle was developed! But adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, crystal clear audio quality blue tooth, large big screen for navigation and reverse camera etc.

EDIT: I don't know why but all of the URL's I put in have been replaced with just <https>
