The Dreaded Crankshaft Failure,? What’s the statistics ?

After reading many posts about this subject, I was just wondering what the statistics are on the crank failure? I know it’s a lottery especially with a used vehicle but What’s the percentage of this happening? Is it at around a certain mileage ? Has any real cause been determined? I’ve also read and watched information that says different ways of preventing this happening (is there really any?) , So what’s the lower mileage this has happened and also the highest, Do we ever get past this happening? Would like to know of engines with high mileage and no issues and an overall percentage across the model

Mileage and servicing seem to have no bearing, I've seen low and high mileage ones go, get a warranty and enjoy the drive.

My SDV6 (in a 12-plate RRS) is on 146k miles so far. I guess the reality is that if the crank snaps at this age, it'll be the scrap yard for the car and searching the classified ads for me. I hope it doesn't snap but there's nothing I can do about it and no warranty is going to cover a car nearing 150k miles, so I just carry on and hope for the best. Oh, and get it serviced per schedule, of course.

it seems to me that an awful lot of the posts you read on FB and forums, on Discos and RRS failures, all mention servicing taking place in the not to distant past........ wonder if there is anything in that or just co-incidence?

Just a normal 10k mile service.

Very reputable indy as well, so I had no concerns that they did anything wrong.

Disco_Mikey - Thanks for advising that these are two separate issues (as a consequence I have deleted my earlier post).
