Drifting to left and abnormal tyre wear

Wondering if anyone has suggestions.

My D4, 65 plate - 65k miles, drifts to the left quite heavily. This happens regardless of camber or road type. Bought car from dealer 18 months ago, problem was present then but not as bad.
Tyres were changed 6 months ago and done little mileage. Recently I’ve noticed the very outer edge is wearing but the tread is otherwise evenly worn. See photo.

Local indie has done 4 wheel tracking and run car on different tyres. Problem remains and tracking was fine. Next step suggested is steering rack.

Could there be anything else more likely to cause this?

Thanks in advance

There is tracking and there is 4 wheel alignment.
Tracking basically means they all point the same way.
Alignment is tracking, plus caster and camber, this is most likely your issue.

There are many specialists around the country who do nothing but alignments, do not believe their hyped up adverts, use one that is recommended.

Sorry, it was alignment that was done. Caster and camber checked. All were fine. I assume this is because the alignment was done 6 months ago when the tyres were changed.

I think you are going to need an alignment specialist, someone who deals with cars wtih issues.

there are only four reasons I can think of for pulling to one side.

1. duff tyres ... you say they tried others, so not that.
2. excess friction in drive train .... possible but unlikely.
3. duff or pre-loaded springs ( only know of this from a mate years ago ... took ages to diagnose ). not applicable for discos.
4. alignment not right.

looking at pic of your tyre ...

... it's got to be number 4.

+1 for what Dean says above....

Try taking it to a different alignment garage (One that has a Hunter system if possible) and I would almost guarantee that it will be out of alignment...

Many thanks for your replies. I’ve booked in to get alignment looked at again to a place recommended by another landrover specialist in town.

Will update when it’s done early next week. In the mean time the same wear pattern is showing up on near side rear now. This is after a 300 mile round trip at the weekend.

even I'm not getting the edges that badly worn, so short of doing roundabouts with tail-out levels of "exuberance" it's got to be an alignment issue. Laughing

Hopefully they use Hunter kit & will do the alignment in Tight Tolerance Mode.

Kwik Fit have said that they are installing Hunter kit in their centres:-

Quote:
At Kwik Fit, we are installing Hunter four-wheel alignment equipment – some of the most accurate wheel alignment technology available - in a growing number of our centres. The Hunter technology uses a series of high-definition imaging sensors which measure the position and orientation of the wheels with pin point accuracy using retro-reflective wheel targets

but you need to check, not assume, that they have upgraded at the centre in which you are interested.

You can check for approved Hunter sites here:-
