Drive shaft?
My revs keep climbing, no drive to wheels!? took about 2 min and 1/2 mile to go from normal to absolutely useless, luckily near home.
IID shows nothing significant, so that's good.
My guess is front left drive shaft, whistling noise coming from there, but no power. New torque converter installed 10k ago, so hopefully not transmission.
Here's (pretty rubbish) recording (sound is key)... any thoughts on likely culprit / repair required before I pull it apart once daylight hits down here?

seems to be front outer cv joint has blown up... thankfully wasn't turbo

I had exactly the same problem the other week. Lots of rev's no drive. Looked at front driveshafts to find nearside front spinning happily on it's own.
When the CV breaks up it provides the ultimate path of least resistance, so when you give it some rev's all the power goes straight to the wheel with the broken CV.
It's the second time I've had the nearside front outer CV go bang in 3 years so to be safe I had it changed out for a brand new genuine driveshaft + inner and outer CV. £440 supplied and fitted. That includes the cost of fighting with the old one trying to get the inner cv to pull out.

Yeah, have just taken whole thing apart. After taking the boot off, I could see the shaft had actually dislocated from the CV joint. The splines on it look a bit worn, and not sure if the circlip was doing its job, but it looks pretty knackered too.
Have taken off, stripped and cleaned the CV joint itself and put back together as a temp repair while I wait for parts.

do it without grease...put that in after..once you sus its easy

Got the cv all back together with some minor hammering, then greased it up. Getting the cv back on the shaft however was a different story - took lots of bashing to get it back on. Hopefully will do the job til parts arrive. Cheers all for help.

Finally got chance to replace axle. 2 tips. Strap a 2×2 block of wood against chassis to act as a leverage point to remove inner axle when seized in. If you get part LR072069, it now takes a different axle nut which is a 36mm hex, no
