driveline `shunt`
car at 20k and seemngly now has a discernable `shunt` (what us older ones recall as UJ wear on old Fords)
only happens when u slow almost to zero (eg roundabout) then pull away, seemingly just as the car drops to lowest ratio...but hasnt quite got there in time. if you come to a halt its ok
seen ref to torque converter issue but any other comments appreciated as ever
this and posts re moving seat and roof rattle are spoiling my enjoyment
need cohesive comment before i go to dealer who will fail to reproduce it over 48hrs and say no fault !TDV6 HSE 2008.....as kindly specced right up by LR as demo ! fridge....yeh why not ?

I'm getting this intermittently with mine and it hasn't been remapped, real kick through the transmission when rolling to a stop then accelerating away before actually stopping. Can't be bothered with the dealers yet as I agree they will more than likley not be able to replicate it2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

My old one did this, it often felt like the car behind had run into the back. New one does not do it. I think the later cars have a different torque converter and/or software. I'm not sure if its upgradeable on older cars.
The good news is my old un' went for over 120k miles with this shunt, and it never got any worse or broke anything in the driveline.

Assuming front & rear diffs are not leaking oil from the input shaft seals, probably rear prop shaft or transfer box (or possibly a DTC stored for the transfer box causing it to operate in non-adaptive mode)

Dealer did a software upgrade for the transmission, Only very slight shunt on one occasion since. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

If the transfer box operated in 'non-adaptive' mode would that affect the centre difflock? Reason I'm asking is recently when I am off road and climbing hills with loose surfaces I have been getting a real kick in the back as the car finds grip, feels a bit like when the rear diff locks (but I don't have that) so wonder if that is the centre diff locking up suddenly rather than progressively?2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

in answer to john c...no never remapped. bought at 5k from LR dealer (and LR car) so i doubt it has been done
only time i ever used the middle dial (and thus i guess altered the diffs) was during the snow this year....cant recall if it began thereafter.
i will replicate near the dealers somewhere and try to show themTDV6 HSE 2008.....as kindly specced right up by LR as demo ! fridge....yeh why not ?

I had the same bump-kick when approaching a stop under 5 mph. It began after I visited the dealer for some faults and a low battery. The dealer cleared all faults and refreshed the adaptive gearbox. Bump-kick began directly after the reflash and was present for about 2 weeks before it disappeared. I attributed it to the gearbox learning the driving style. Was annoying when present, felt like a car nudged my D3 from behind right before I stopped.16 D4 Landmark

Mine has developed a mild shunt when going from overrun to power on, if your not particularly careful to tread lightly on the throttle. I recently had a software download to the engine ECU. I will speak with Lookers Chelmsford, but I am sure they will say 1/ it's the way I am driving it, 2/ they are all like that.

Mine has this same 'shunt'. went to dealer and they just told me it was un adjustable play in the drivetrain and is to be expected on a car with high miles on it. (90K). They said there was nothing they can do about it.Current: D3 commercial

Did you ask about the transmission software update?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
