Driver's door connector and loom question
I am pretty sure I have intermittent shorting wires inside the door connector wiring (repeater indicator pulses 10secs on/10 secs off continuously and window motor just makes a whirring noise). Occasionally I cannot open the window but it all works when I open the drivers door and take the strain off the wiring.
The question I have is:
Has anyone repaired a wire (or two) between the connector and the door or am I barking up the wrong tree and will have to source a new loom?
Cheers
Chris

I think some else had this. They even made a video
I suggested they check the door earth wire just inside the car.

I have an intermittent speaker in the drivers front door and I think it's the wiring loom from the door, how do you get to both ends, is there a plug on the inside of the car? I'd probably just thread in a new wire to replace the one that I suspect is broken

I guess in both your cases, you do need to fix a broken wire.
earth wires are black I think
speaker wires green (need to do my rear left door! ) and front probably!

Hi
Also had this and don’t know how useful this is
Removed all the earth wires inside the door well, sanded the O ring crimps and bolts up, reconnected , sorted
Fault was when I pressed the window switch it was like a starter motor that wouldn’t engage, or a clicking
Also learnt the switches have a time delay, so after pressing the buttons repeatedly, have to stop before pressing them again
Thks to Pete as always for suggesting to clean all the earths up
Getting to those connectors are right little sods
Hope that helps
Ps, just remembered I first removed the door panel, used a multimeter and done a continuity test between the door loom connector and connections inside door , this proved the door loom itself was sound

Pete, that sounds like a replica of my issue. Shame we didnt get to find out the final solution from ilifer
Anyway, I will now focus on the earth wires in the door frame, the connector and the harness between door and car.

So I am getting somewhere at last thanks to Pete K suggestion.
Connected a fused wire from an earthing splice in the door across to the car earth and lo and behold no amount of waggling of the door connector and wiring could make it fail.
Next, have to find a way to best repair this earth wire through the connector. Suggestions?

Probably quicker to add a new wire between the splice and rear of connector.
Assuming the fault is in the door! You will find out anyway !

Added a new piece of wire from earth splice to just after the connector. All works!!! Pete K...many thanks
Just a reminder, I had:
- side indicator operating independently and flashing on/off in 30 sec cycles
- no mirror adjustment
- window motor just whirred without operating
Now all I have to do is work out how to get the rubber boot back on the connector and into the door pillar so that it is water tight.

They are real to get back in place aren’t they. What helped me was the airbag removal tool. i.e. right angle bit to push the plastic edges in worked surprisingly well Stolen - D4 Loire Blue

You may find that broken wires appear at the U in cable as it passes under the glass guide in the bottom of the door. The loom is taped to a retainer to keep it clear but as the tape glue dries with age, the cable drops out of the retainer and starts rubbing on the rail/guide. It’s quite easy to pull the whole loom back through the door to the inner rubber grommet so you can inspect the whole length. Done it a few times now.

Did you fit the grommet over the connector first and then pushed it in back into the A pillar? Can't seem to get the grommet on while the connector is already seated.'05 LR3 4.4L V8 SE - Java Black
