driving with air suspension fault?

the dreaded air suspension warning light came on yesterday, together with periodic mentions of 'suspension raising slowly'. I put the gap iid diagnostic tool on the car and it reported 'C1A35-01 (6C) general failure information- general electrical failure.

my thinking is that I will probably try and remove the (hitachi) compressor and get a rebuild kit off ebay??
however, in the meantime I was going to use the disco to tow my RR classic to a friends place 20 miles away for repair.

does anyone know if its ok to use the disco with the suspension fault or am I risking terminal damage to the compressor?
thanks

I would imagine you will end up on the bump stops, especially if you was towing with it. You will also end up with the towbar at the wrong height which could cause the trailer to be unstable which won’t be helped by the suspension not working on the truck.

Personally I find most of the time the rebuild kits are a temporary fix and you’ll need a new compressor in the long run, maybe worth just buying a new compressor now and fitting it if you need it. Don’t forget to check the air tank while your under there.

Having driven mine about 15 miles to the garage on the bump stops I certainly wouldn’t consider towing a heavy load on the bump stops. That said if it’s still at correct height it might be possible

Thanks guys. Right now its sitting at a reasonable height, so i might see how high its sitting tomorrow before thinking sbout towing. Its one of those rigid towing bars i’m using so height may not be too much concern?

I had to tow the trailer with a suspension fault...worked out it was the wiring harness in NSF wheel arch. The towing was mostly off road and none on main roads.
I put the suspension at normal height and then into build mode before the 'suspension lowering' kicked in.

It worked fine but I'd be reticent to do it on any main roads.

So, my wife told me 'disgression was the better part of valour' ....whatever that means, and booked a tilt bed vehicle recovery service. RR classic now delivered to welding god for essential repairs. Also heard that towing an automatic car is a big no-no??

Probably a wise move, it would have been a bumper to have to arrange two flat beds Whistle
