Need to change my tyres (19") soon. Am tempted by goodyear mtr, but not convinced. I know they are the only proper off road tyre in 19, but not sure if they are a bit too aggresive for my needs. Also the current availability of them may be a problem from what I have heard. Im on pirelli zeros at the moment which I am pretty un impressed with offroad, but then they are not far of the limit. Looking at all the road treads available in 19", I thought these dunlops : http://www.dunloptyres.co.uk/ourTyres/4x4/searchResults/ST8000/ seem to have the most aggresive tread, anyone had much experience with them in the dirt??

I have Dunlops for my winter tyres, not sure the exact spec (can't be Censored looking now) These on your link indicate "mud & snow"

I will check the details on mine tomorrow if it helps.

PS: They have been good up to now (3rd winter) but never off-roaded.

For 19" the Grand Trek 8000 and the Wrangler HP/HP-AW are on a par offroad, considered better than the Scorpions but they're no MTR. Nobody seems to do an AT tyre in 19" yet.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Wonder If I should buy some 19" slicks and cut them myself! Shocked

I need a shove in the right direction... as I said I'm very tempted with mtr's, but im worried I might lose some of what I love about the disco3... Its very quiet, and the MPG still amazes me. I have had a lot of 4x4's over the years, Vitara(!),Fourtrack, 90 300tdi, 90 td5, rangerover classic 2.4, then fitted an isuzu 2.8 in it, shogun 2.8lwb, 2x shogun swb 3.2td, X5(not proud of it! Laughing ), the disco 3 is the biggest and heaviest, yet the mpg betters everything except the non turbo fourtrack, that was pretty frugal driven carefuly.. Thumbs Up Its a shame theres no a/t in 19", I would have thought as factory fit wheels keep creeping up in size there would already be a market for them?

Anyone running MTR's living near Hereford? I might have a try and blag a ride to make up my mind! Smile

Sid I have a spare set you can fit to your car to 'try out'. No point taking the Red Pearl for a blast as you wont hear the tyres for the noise of the roof rack and all the Censored I have bolted to it.

You can pop up to my work shop and use my hoist if you want it wont take us long to change them Thumbs Up

Well my mind has been made up for me..... Rang round today and couldnt get any MTR's for love nor money. Left it at that. Picked my Landy up this afternoon after it had the tailgate repair done, and I also had a word with them about the rear tyres being totally scrubbed out on the inside edge, and asked if it hadnt had the 4 wheel alignment checked to do it, I really didnt want to put a new set of tyres on to scrub them out and thought this should be covered by the warranty (its an 05 I bought about a month ago). When I picked it up they had done it all and had fitted 4 brand new pirelli zeros with nothing to pay! Shocked Not my ideal choice of tyre, but I cant complain, didnt expect that one. What can I say... Hereford Landrover Rock!

Sidney, just a thought but worth looking out for a set of FFRR 19" rims cheap off fleabey (7 spoke ones, 6 spokers no good). Keep all that lovely free rubber on your HSE rims & have a set of MTRs for the mud & snow. Pain to change but best of both worlds.

and a compressor!!! Deffinately more choice on tyres with 17"s & 18"s, wheels with worn out tyres cheap as chips on ebay.

The only problem with getting MTRs or muds is that your car ends up like this so you also need a good jetwash!
