Duratrac questions

Ok, prob answered before but too many tyres threads to trawl through, well that's my excuse. Whistle Whistle

What are Duratracs like on fuel and noise compared with standard GY Wranglers? It's really just for end destinations on roadtrips, dirt roads and getting into spots to camp off the road, so a couple of thousand miles to get there on normal roads, hence mpg concerns. Looking at Duratracs and 19" ATRs, advantage of the former is winter rated.

Thoughts oh wise ones out there?

I lose 3mpg on them in my Amarok and now that they are down to 8mm they have got considerably noisier than what they were when new.

I'd be interested to see what people are saying about the AT3 when they start to wear.

Duratrac have been around for a good few years now, has tyre tech moved on?

On a positive note, the winter side of them is fine, I have no trouble tackling ice covered slopes even in rwd Thumbs Up

Looking with interest for answers as I have the same problem. Original fitment Wranglers AW (255x55x19) are down to about 3mm at 23k and I have been considering replacing with same or ATRs. Same sort of usage as days of serious off roading are past. Mostly now on road. Wranglers have been good wearing for my driving and quiet. Better wearing than the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros I had on the D3. Sure-footed on wet Motorways. On balance for me it is 'the devil you know' so probably replace with same. Had no trouble with recent snow but in truth never had trouble with snow with any tyres.

Also waiting for experienced comment. Thumbs Up

Changed back to Duratrac from Coopers (on for 9 months) in Nov, prior to that ran them for a couple of years.
Never really noticed noise, take an age to wear down, good manners on/off tarmac & unlike the Coopers clear mud/gunk/snow well.
Later production runs have an additional Kevlar band to sidewall, Q rating due to change in regs, but essentially the same tyre as when S branded. No winter symbol on tyre though. Low stock seems to be an issue at the mo.

Changed from GY Wranglers to Duratracs a couple of months ago,
Slight loss of mpg but I didn't buy a D3 to be economical Wink.
Do notice a slight hum compared with the Wranglers but nothing major.
They are in short supply though, my local tyre distributor tried all his normal contacts and was struggling to get a set even Stapletons said they couldn't get a set, ended up having them sent from Germany.

No winter symbol would be an issue for me, the main reason for running them was so I had an AT which i could use on the ski trip to save running two sets.

AT3 next then. Still, I've only worn 4mm off the duratracs in 25k miles!

Just not sure re mpg & noise yet. Don't need them for the well 'ard look, doesn't really work with chrome side tubes and mirror caps. Embarassed Embarassed

All might be a bit moot, SWMBO doesn't know of this line of thought yet. Laughing Laughing

Main problem with increase in thirst is corresponding reduction in range. For roads away from the main transit routes I'm already down to mid 20s, I'd rather that didn't drop any further as it'll mean I'd be heading off the planned route just to get juice. Thumbs Up
