| Easiest route into London |
|
Easter hols fast approaching, Green Flag coverage up to date and emergency kit in the boot, Alternator and Battery recently changed 
Taking family away for few days with a Hotel stay In Hemel Hempstead. doing the bits in and around there but was looking at a day in London, being a northerner i normally fly in and out but never really spent any time time there. 
Question is what's the easiest way into tourist London from Hemel Hempstead?
driving? whats the congestion charge?
Public transport rail or Bus?
looking to make it as easy as poss with 3 kids in tow

Public transport all or most of the way:
1. avoid the traffic
2. avoid the congestion charge
3. avoid parking costs
4. can wander round London and leave by a different route
Also, if you can get to a point where you can start your journey in a London Transport zone (even if travelling on a train rather than Tube), then a Travelcard will pay for your transport all day.
Also I think there's a weird train that goes from Hemel Hempstead to Shepherd's Bush in 35 minutes, from where you can pick up the Central line tube. Andrew

more worried about the car making it Why does every page of the manual have fingerprints?

Public transport Hemel - Euston, then Tube. Or park at one of the end of the line tube stations and tube it all the way in.

London is not cheap whatever way you do it. So I always prefer to drive in and then at least you're in the comfort of your own car until you get there.
There's a car park right behind Oxford Street's John Lewis store that's only about £12 a day if you book in advance and from there you can get to all the touristy bits.

Thanks Scarab thats my thinking get in the kids in the car put on the DVD then i dont mind how long it takes to get out and back. though the tube may provide some excitement... Why does every page of the manual have fingerprints?

Does seem expensive Simon and that's the place I normally Park.
There's a site I often use to pre-book it and I'm sure I've never paid more than about £12 for 8 hours.
Try a google search for prebook Cavendish Square Parking and I think if you do it more than 3 days in advance you can get it cheaper.
Infact I've just asked the Mrs and we normally find somewhere that does it for 50% more than 3 days in advance apparently. We generally do the 24hrs and get it for £18 so that sounds about right.

of the M1...go into Golders Green....look down the side roads....you will find many have free & not residents parking.
five mins walk to Golders Green Tube...very frequent trains
3 or 4 stations to Kings Cross.
Works for me every time....
also some good eateries in Golders BREXIT - done properly.

just to wind up the the thread and for general info to anyone . 
Our first option was to park at Brent Cross shopping centre an tube it in, but i braved it and drove straight into Park lane.  quite an experience.
£10 congestion charge and found a europark £18 p/12hrs just down from marble arch. got a open top hop on/off bus ticket for the stay duration. so all in all the apart from the traffic on the A41 into Centre London not bad
i guess all in all satisfied in the method. parking central and avoiding the rush hour in and out seemed to work. 
The retrofit flip down Dvd player kept the kids happy and my Garmin in D4 surround fit kept me happy Why does every page of the manual have fingerprints?
