Slightly wrong all of the file that contains data and not FF FF FF is part of the cars running,
the map area is infact all of the file because without the stratgies the map dont work.
The related maps have running stratgies that are part of the data inside the file so without both been there the car would not run.
There are also limites and safe mode stratgies in the data part of the file that look up addreses in the maps and adjust the running to suite its needs and set requirements.
Admitingly some of it is not needed to be changed for every day mapping.
Just like all these 1 byte instructions inside the mapping which there are millions of, all these parts of the 2 meg file have a big effect on the other main bigger maps that control the car.

Just got me 2nd tune
Its bl00dy good, especially with shell V power. Very pleased, good response over whole rev range. Must let it settle for a week though. The supplier also gave me a third experimental tune. Needles to say it didnt work still should be even better (is this possible ?) when fixed.
Not bad when all works, 3 tunes for £320, I think he should charge a bit more. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Slightly pedantic.... obviously I didn't include the buffers or padding bytes of course all of the file contains data even if it's not used or not active in normal conditions Clearly, the security data etc. is there as well, as you well know, the active, standard map is about 48kb, this is the area most tuners focus upon

Wiggs,
I've now got a reply from him after sending a reminder. He has confirmed that the new boxes will be 395 GBP with one tune (due to the fact that the second tune negates the need for the first tune as it's better). Mr Dastardly's post seems to confirm this.
I've copied my post from the other thread and updated it here to compare the current actual costs. I've also removed the number of tunes as they're all currently offering one tune instead of 2.

Bell Auto Services

Costs: 625 GBP = 425 + 200 (special forum price) *

Mr Dastardly (from supplier XYZ)

Costs: 395 GBP all included (no forum discount offered)
NOTES:
* Based upon price for Defender 2.4TDCI as no TDV6 price has been confirmed
Even though supplier XYZ has upped the price 100 GBP due to 'changes in the value of the euro', it's still 225 GBP cheaper than the special forum price offered by our sponsors...
The extra 100 GBP has put me off slightly, but hey-ho...it's still tempting 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Not quite....I don't exactly know the other suppliers either. They may be forum sponsors , but I can't exactly go around and knock on their door if I have a problem either.
At the moment I have seen a good recomendation from Dick Dastardly and after speaking to him via PM a few times he is very happy with the tune/service received (although we have to remember that it's still early days).
His supplier is also based in the same city that I used to live in, so it would be easy to get hold of them during a visit back home if necessary.
As far as the other tunes, I haven't seen any reviews or comments on their tune/service yet (although I think Slimer took up an introductory offer with one of them). This means that at the moment, they are even more 'unknown' to me.....and more than 50% more expensive....
Don't worry - I know where you're coming from, but so far the pros outweigh the cons. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

There are plenty of good feedback post from TT customers and I think you must be aware of Iain's technical abilities with the D3

Simon - I'm only referring to the suppliers that can do 'remote' remapping using the Powergate R box. Unfortunately TFC doesn't offer this service.
If he did, then there would be no discussions and my cheque would have been in the post a week ago

So would I, but Iain's OBDII cable won't reach all the way down here to do my remap so I'm left to compare other alternatives2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

I can understand that, but surely Bell Autos who seem well regarded in the LR world would be a better bet?DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
