EGR blanking the cons..

Having spent quite some time reading about EGR blanking, I can see that its a popular choice to blank and for 08 models perform a remap. I'm in need of 2! and seriously considering doing it.
However I have spoken to a couple of knowledgeable garages and they don't recommend it as the engines don't run smoothly or properly once remapped. Being an engineer i can see this is a possibility.
I can understand a bad map but I am concerned that blanking may cause other issues in the long run.

Has anyone had issues post blanking on 07 onward models?

After blanking the car does run smoother but I also noticed a considerably drop in performance, the loss of low down grunt was, to be perfectly honest, quite obvious.
Nobody seems to mention this but I thought it was a dramatic change in performance once blanked and it wasn't for the better which is probably why most owners or modders recommend a re-map after blanking.
I re-mapped and the performance did return but that low down grunt had lost it's wow factor in my opinion.

I did the blanking and re-mapping, 4 or 5 years ago from memory, the cars been fine in that time. Thumbs Up

I did mention the power loss when I did mine a few years ago and got poo pood saying I was imaging things etc.
Its still annoying at times but I guess I have learnt to live with it.

Mine being older doesnt need the map just the blank plates.

Power loss because the ecu is trying to compensate for false or missing egr info is my concern too. I dont want to have to increase piwer via a remap at the moment.
Wonder if the sowftware change actually removes the need for the egr function all together or just masks it?

I guess the ecu is expecting less oxygen to be present in the cylinders and therefore the fuel ratio is not optimum.
