Not completely true, the screen does have crystals, of the liquid variety, as in LCD or Liquid Crystal Display. When its cold, I suppose they could slow down a bit, but I've only ever noticed it on the monochrome lcd's in the main dashboard, and only when its very cold. The characters can be slow to appear.

Yes the screen itself does, but we're discussing the touch sensitive part and the fact that a LR dealer had said that the lack of 'touch-sensitiveness' was due to the crystals.......
The touchy-feely bit of the screen has nothing to do with the actual LCD screen behind it (although they are laminated together, they are usually seperate bits).
LCD screens are all susceptible to temperature changes, but only at extremes - certainly not at temperatures you're likely to find in your D3 on a brisk November morning.
The ones in the radio and message centre are passive-matrix displays and are more susceptible to low temperatures and suffer from slow response times.
The TFT LCD in the sat-nav screen is an active-matrix display which has much better response times and much higher resistance to contrast problems in low temperatures.... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I agree, he definitly has a faulty touch screen. I wonder if a recalibration would help? I sell a lot of epos systems with touch screen displays, and a lot of user problems can be solved with a good clean, and recalibration.
That said, I have not sure i've seen a recalibrate option on the system

There is a touch screen test on the diagnostics screen ...cant remember if its a calibration tool though
Edit ....just had a read up and yes it will test the physical side of the touch screen.
You can check the screen integrity and re calibrate the screen .
Touch screen check will display a blank screen ...touching any were on the screen will give a series of co-ordinates....if a faulty area is touched no co-ordinates will display .
Re calibrating the screen allows you to align the touch screen by pressing a series of on screen targets

This morning being much warmer than previuosly the touchscreen responded first time. So I've come to conclusion that its def temperature related.
