When I collected my D3 a couple of weeks ago, I had the cabin tour telling me what all the knobs and buttons do. But the salesman then went on to explain about th emergency brake. When travelling and you need to stop sharpish he said pull up on the handbrake switch and hold it in the raised position and the car will come to an abrupt halt. He said that no one in the dealership had tried it. Apparently it takes you out of gear, applies the brake, turns the hazards on.
Is he taking the mick or is this feature there and has anyone tried it? HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Its true. Will bring you to a dead stop, fairly pronto. However, it won't take you out of gear - not in my manual at least and the only way for the hazards to come on, is if you head butt it as you pull the EPB upwards and hold
Nice to know that the passenger can bring the car to a stop if you snuff it at the wheel

Try it... it will leave your teeth embedded in the windscreen 
Make sure your on a quiet road though as you'll get rear ended.
Oh.. and not sure about the hazards, these have never come on for me, but then I have never let it actually come to a halt when giving it a go.
Its very impressive indeed.
BUT... I'm not sure its going to be quicker at stopping you than stamping on and pushing down the brake peddle as it your trying to kill it.
There is a delay before it kicks in, and that delay will cause you trouble in a real emergency. Unless your clear minded enough to STAMP and HOLD the brake peddle WHILE pulling on the EPB switch.
I'm sure if you were cool headed enough to do that, the world would reverse direction VERy quickly

Don't think that you will have the reaction time to do this in traffic quicker than applying the brake with your foot ...your brain and hooks for hands just won't work as quick .....but it is an impressive fallback nevertheless.
It doesn't turn the hazards on but it does present the brake lights
Find an empty strectch of road ...get it up to about 100mph and try it .....I've been in a RRS Supercharged when its been done at 130mph and my internal organs were soon protruding from my mouth 8) 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It is impressive.
But what I don't understand completely. The emergency handbrake on normal cars were always explained to me as a system that you could use if the normal brakes fail.
Say you have been offroading in water with ice and that damaged your brake hose. So your brake fluid is going everywere except pushing the barke calipers at the discs.
I can tell you from experience it will take some time before you think about pulling the handbrake. I was stopped by a tree, luckely I wasn't driving fast and did no damage.
But as the emergy brake system uses the normal brakes will it still work if there is a problem and you can't use your footbrakes? Roel

I would assume its got different 'touch' points into the braking systems including the EPB.

Unless you've damaged the brake hoses at all 4 corners you should be fine, if you have done all 4 in look for a soft tree  The End

Doesn't the EPB use braking from inside the gearbox rather than actually applying the brakes? So that would still work even if your brakes failed for whatever reason, as the braking would be through the drive shafts right? Probably wrong, but that's what I thought. I have tried the emergency stop thing on my field, and there didn't seem to be any ABS etc, it left 2 parallel skid lines in the grass! Was extremely sharp though.
