Unfortunately no luck with the vacuum...
So after an unsuccessful attempt to change the transmission sump and sucking in a rag, it’s off to the garage.
Am I right in thinking this is a tow job?

Hi
Thats a shame , not wishing to try and tell u how to suck eggs ,,but , as it’s an auto never a good idea to tow them anyway , so a trailer will be best as it’s an automatic
Plse let us know how u get on
Ps, must admit have an endoscope and always found them to be extremely handy in situations like this , so then at least seeing it a metal coat hanger might have worked

Thanks Gstaurt,
I will contact the AA and see if they can trailer it to local indy garage!
By all means say it how it is! Would rather suck eggs then f*** it up any worse haha!
What are my chances that the rag is just at the turbo end of the hose, how would I know it is gone through turbo?
Do you know of any local chaps willing to work on other landys?
Thanks

No air compressor but been thinking of buying one so this would be a good excuse if it solves the issue?
Thanks

Hiya
Ur so welcome , alas maybe ones of the other members will know a garage or someone near u
Did u try and remove the hose from the turbo end , behind the passenger side heat shield , u might be lucky and the entire rag comes out in one piece
Of course if there’s bits missing will require further investigation
Hope that helps

Good call ref air compressor
Might be an idea to get a cheap endoscope to put down the air intake pipe going towards the turbo, then if the rag is in one piece may be able to fish it out with a metal coat hanger

OK so if the engine was started the rag will have likely been drawn into the turbine vanes. In this scenario you might be able to retrieve it by pulling off the bottom intercooler hose on the p/side, and see if it has been spat out into the pipe. Use the vacuum or a coat hanger and see if you can get hold of it that way.
If you have a vacuum the has an exhaust pipe outlet you could use that as a compressor to force the remains of the rag through the turbo and out into the intercooler pipe!
If it hasn't been started it will be just sitting in the pipe and you could reverse the vacuum exhaust through the intercooler pipe and see if it will blow it out where it went in!
You could also try a coat hanger wire or similar to retrieve it with a hooked end perhaps. You will get it,
Just take your time and try different methods. A compressor might be help if you can borrow one.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi all thanks for the suggestions.
The engine has definitely been started but only idling.
I haven’t tried to get to the bottom intercooler hose as it seams a nightmare and I thought considering I am going to have to take it to garage to redo transmission I figured I would let them do this?
It is really that difficult to get to, should I give it a go or just leave it with the garage to sort?
Are they likely to be able to figure it out without too much hassle?
Thanks again

That won't work
You'll have to remove the pipe off the nose of the turbo, and use some welding wire/old coat hanger to force the rag back up the pipeMy D3 Build Thread
