The D4 is 255bhp, but the RRS is 306, is the difference hardware or just software??
RRS possibly the 3.6 v8 rather than the 3.0 v6?

The D4 SDV6 3.0 and the 3.0 in the L320 (Series 2) RRS will be the same with the same tune.
The RRS (L494) 3.0 may very well be different and will be down to tuning as there are differing specs in the L494.
So you need to specifiy which RRS you are talking about.

so if it's the same engine but mapped to produce more power, and because of that I would have thought a lot lore stress, are RRS engines snapping cranks at an even more alarming rate?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

You can also check the different incidences of damage between D4 3.0 TDV6 and the D4 3.0 SDV6 - same engine, different tune in the same model vehicle.

Thanks, I was of course referring to the assumed identical 3.0 V6 in both cars (the V8 in the RRS is about 350bhp I think).
(.....£30k difference for an engine sounds a lot!!!)
The RRS engine gets mapped from 300-odd to circa 350, but the D4 from 250-odd to circa 300bhp, I just wondered why there was such a big difference, surely can’t just be mapping??
Injectors, larger turbos??....

So, the SDV6 should be able to be mapped to 350bhp (or whatever it is the RRS is)......

Hi,
Believe it's the software
The FFRR 3.0 is the same as the D4, but you could always go for the 4.4
the RRS can be 292 then changed to 306
I think the £30k you would be getting the dynamic as well so more electrickery and a rear locking diff
Different markets that L/R can choice what to give you and then more noticeable between the engines for the same model, if the 306 3.0 was in the FFRR who would go for the 4.4?
