Bad idea is my answer...
MY OPINION IS.... maybe well when new, but I would not do a remapping to a car with a certain amount of kilometers ... and in addition if there was no risk of loss of reliability LR would have boosted it already in factory, LR would have sold it remapped from the factory because it would have been much more commercially attractive...Instead of remapping decided to increase engine capacity from 2.7 to 3.0 for something to be....
....apart from this, and I mean, I never considered it necessary to increase power in the D3 lost in translation!

Why? My remap, IC and deCat were done at 90,000 miles (144,000km). It now has over 200,000 miles (320,000km) on the clock with no problems. It just purrs along. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Plenty of standard cars have suffered engine trouble.
Snapped cranks, spun bearings, turbo failures etc. They happened with the engine as Land Rover intended it to be.
Adding a remap will put extra stress on stuff. The best you can do to offset that is to be more strict with servicing and checks of the car.
I had my 500 IC fitted at 125k, the map at 154k, I get it serviced with a full AF kit every year.
It gets run on BP Ultimate diesel. I bought my car with 97k, so had it 4 years before adding a map.
For me the remap is worth it, to others it isn't. It's our own choice having looked at both sides.

I've never had a problem with mine and it was remapped at about 120k miles. As I understand it the engine mapping is set up in the factory as a 'one size fits all' regarding emissions and other legislation across the world, and the vehicles are perfectly capable of handling a more optimal map.
Regarding the BP ultimate diesel mentioned, I find that mine runs noticeably better on plain diesel from Tesco, although I usually add Redex as well.

Whilst driving the works van last night down the M20 I set to thinking about remaps and slipping clutches.
My thoughts are the engine can certainly produce serious grunt when its chipped but obviously the clutch cant handle it, if you search it appears lots of makes of cars have the exact same issue when tuned.
I personally have come across two cars with this exact same issue.
Then I got to thinking of the auto boxes, (the M20 at night is really boring!) and on my car sometimes when the engine lugs a bit in a manual I would just let it lug away the auto changes down i assume to protect the gearbox itself, so wondering how this would effect the gearbox now the engine is making more torque?
