Engine Remap - Good idea or bad??

I have a 55 plate D3 that is affectionately known as the "Problem child" and it has been suggested that having it remapped would be a good idea..............

I have zero technical knowledge but have lots of experience paying for it to be fixed so I am wary of doing anything too it that may cost me more pennies.........

Can peeps let me know your experiences good or bad relating to having this done and is it worth it??

Just do it.

It's not as if you are going stage 3 with larger intercooler, bigger turbo etc. which will put the
whole drivetrain under massive additional load.

A basic remap just allows the car to breath better and produce the sort of grunt that it should have had when it left the factory.

The original map is designed to take into account bad fuel and conditions in places like Africa so there is a massive margin, all a UK remap will do is taylor the car for UK fuel quality.

A real no brainer.

Get it done you will not regret it Thumbs Up It does however highlight any problems you may have with your transmission as it did with mine. But if its ok there is nothing to worry about Thumbs Up

I found it helped eliminate that "nothing happening" feeling when pulling out of a junction into a gap that should be large enough..... Thumbs Up

I had Gary at alive do mine at 185,000 miles, it was something i meant to do earlier but was always something else i needed to do. So after replacing my clutch i thought it would be a good time to have it done. So far ive not had any issues and it drives much better.

I had a D3 with a remap which really improved the drivability, however it was a manual and the extra power would make clutch slip, despite a low mileage. In the end I removed the remap and the clutch was still going strong when I sold it several years later.

I have very recent experience to share with you. My 2006 disco has around 65k miles from new. I have just had the egrs blanked and a remap done by Bodsy (easy to find on the forum). The remap has transformed the performance of my car. Power is up and delivered urgently, but very smoothly. I am hugely impressed with the results and would highly recommend that you get it done and done by Ian if you are near him. Ian travelled from Shropshire via Northampton to work on my car near St.Albans. It took around an hour and would probably be quicker for the remap on its own. He can give you the price himself, but I think it represents the best spend I have ever made on a car. Ian also offers a menu of other electronic/programming mods to personalise your car.

As the people from Nike say.....just do it!

I got my 54 plate car mapped at 154k.
I got mine done by site sponsor BAS, there is a large difference between a proper map for these cars and a generic tuning box effort.
BAS have spent a lot of time getting a good map sorted so I went for that.

Made a huge difference, the pick up from stationary leaving junctions is far better and always a big issue for mine, the power through the rev range is better and low down torque is much improved.
Wish I had mapped mine sooner.

Car is now on 159k and no issues with the map, or the car that weren't there before.

I've had a remap on my manual for 3 years and it's fantastic. I have had no new clutch issues.

(I've always had a funny, intermittent clutch(?) judder since I bought the vehicle 4 years ago; I never got to the bottom of it, although someone on here suggested it may not even be the clutch).
