Not saying it's not the turbo, but I have had that same message and power loss whilst driving along accelerating and dabbing the brake pedal with my left foot, if the brake light switch was faulty and making contact intermittently, the same could conceivably happen, just a suggestion, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a turbo. Laughing

Like i said in my earlier post the engine lost power for about 5 second and then came back on again and only the message on the dash displaying engine system fault. There was no other lights on the dash and car starte to drive ok again afterwards.
If there is anyone out there can check this fault I would be greatful.
Thanks
P.S.
Where abouts is the turbo located on the engine and had anyone got any images of this and how to dismantle the part.
Thumbs Up

my loss of power was for more than 5 sec, and initially did NOT require me to stop and restart to clear. The only way really of knowing is to see what codes have been logged on the ECU, or live with it till it progresses.

Turbo is just about seen under the arch, behind the strut and just covered by a heat shield but you will see the rusty bolts. They can be a git to remove depending on those bolts TBH.

When I had my Turbo done, my dealer did it word for word as per maintenence manual, they seperate body from chassis to replace turbo, but most have learnt how to without this, or grown harder skin on their knuckles.

This is a bad design by Land Rover especially if you need to remove the body from the chassis. Not good news at all.

It can be done without the split though......

My advice is really to get the faults codes read, get them cleared and see what happens. Funny things are LR's and its better to speculate on the turbo.

Actually, removing the body from the chassis isn't that difficult...IIRC its about four bolts...and it makes for working on the vehicle a whole lot easier... Laughing

If the power died and then came back again, was it at about 1,500 to 2,000 revs. And then at about 2,500 revs it was one big whoosh and off you went...?

If yes....then I suspect EGR's...
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Yes thats exactly what happened and was ok afterwards all the way home. rev the engine to see if it would happen again but all was ok. If its a faulty egr can i get away with it being blanked off?

John, same woosh at same revs for CFT, with the ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT message, no warning lights. When you get the woosh lots if smoke out the back as well.

On your D3, being a 2005 MY, Yes you can blank the EGR's. But do a search on here, been threaded intensely and not as simple AGAIN.

You need to remove the Butterfly valve in the induction too Laughing

IIRC pre-2006 don't have any warning lights for EGR...? (ie amber engine light)
