Really need help with this one, it's confusing me...
Bought a D3 TDV6 that came in boxes. Was a runner until an injector failed which got stuck in the head (hence the pile of boxes). I've managed to rebuild it, turned the key yesterday and nothing. I have power but nothing happened. Deleted loads of fault codes and re read, the only one in the engine ECU was turbo related. Then the battery went flat. Charged it for a bit then tried jumping it too. Eventually the engine turned over but the battery went flat again. Replaced it with a rather nice new AGM one that was lying around and now the engine will turn over but will not start. I cannot read the engines ECU, the gearbox and EBP are also struggling to find it. I have checked the fuses and they seem fine, unless there is a hidden one somewhere? Everything is plugged in and I think all the earth leads are reconnected (I didn't strip it, but as the ECU was readable I assume they are all ok).
I don't think the ECU is damaged as it's turning over?
Any ideas from you lovely knowledgeable bunch? 2004 Disco 3 HSE TDV6

Even with everything correct it does take ages to get these started after a rebuild.
Spraying starting spray into the intake should help. Don’t let liquid pool in the inlet else that will knacker engine.
You may want to remove an injector and connect it externally to ensure its spraying fuel out when cranking. Give confidence ecu is happy.
Is the cam sensor plugged in on the left head ?

Cam sensor is plugged in.
I'm not hearing any buzzing from the pump in the tank. Should I? I'm not getting any fuel at the schrader valve either.
I can't understand how the engine can turn over if the ECU is not working. It needs a signal from the gearbox and various other sensors before it will turn over. 2004 Disco 3 HSE TDV6

Just read that weirdly!
I have also just read on this forum that a duff ECU can manifest itself with a temp gauge in the red. I have that also. Not looking good. Still can't work out why it turns over but there is no communication between the engine ECU and the others in the car. 2004 Disco 3 HSE TDV6

in your shoes i would start by solving the mechanical problems first and then the electrical. no particular reason why but the absence of fuel is problem number 1.
after fixing that then things might flow easier.

Had to finish for today as the battery is now flat. I'll leave on charge overnight and continue tomorrow. 2004 Disco 3 HSE TDV6

the fuel pump should run run for 30 seconds. with ignition on.
And yes you can normally hear is at a wooshing noise.
You don't need much to make the starter motor turn over. Just the imboliser happy
See if you have power at the fuel pump fuse, during the 30 seconds after ign on

Can you remove the fuel pump relay(assuming it has one) and bridge the contatcs out to get it to run constant?
Is there enough fuel in the car?

Do you not find it odd that you've killed one battery and keep flattening the replacement..............or are you cranking the living daylights out of them? Mods:
