Engines takes long to start

Hey Guys,

my D4 got a new engine (Gen2 Engine).

The car is driving really good and makes great power, no oil consumption.

When the car is cold it takes 3-5 seconds of cranking, until it starts.

When the car is warm it takes around 1-2 seconds, even longer than it should i think.

Start/Stop isn`t even working - no fault codes.

What could cause this? I don`t think it`s compression because the engine is fully rebuilt with new piston rings / fresh valves etc. Furthermore it got good power and no oil consumption.

I read about glow plugs or even some failures on the high pressure pump.

Anybody can help me what i should sort out first?

Battery? If S/S isn't working then that's a good indicator your main battery isn't on top form..

And being a new engine it will take more effort cranking than a engine that is fully run in. Thumbs Up

The battery is even complete new. It got a lot of power (110AH) but it is no Start/Stop Battery.

The engine ran in now almost 1.000 Miles...

Maybe stating the obvious to you, but are you turning ignition on, then waiting for a good ten seconds for the Glow Plugs to get some heat in where it counts? Then hitting the button again with brake pedal to crank it?
In this weather, it'll thank you for it and fire quicker.

It is a D4 with s/s, press button start I presume, once the start button is pressed starting is automatic, the 3-5 second delay in starting when cold is the time it takes for the heater plugs to do their job, although when hot it should be instant. When my s/s is working on mine it take less time to start than it does to move my foot off the brake to press the accelerator Thumbs Up
