EPB
can any one tell me if the EPB has ever been modified on newer models
i have a 2008 xs auto which at the moment is fine but im aware of all the issues recorded on here, so if goes just wondering if they got changed later on or the D4
i dont want to go down the route of changing plastic gears if theres a complete new part that will fit and doesnt fail like the original
cheers

Just keep the shoes serviced and correctly adjusted and you wont have any problems. The issues begin when this is ignored during servicing or its adjusted incorrectly. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Just a thought, how do the shoes wear if they are only applied when stationary or are they used by one of the systems like hill start

They don't wear unless you use hill descent a lot. What happens is they get replaced without proper adjustment because the original ones got stuck on through lack of use and maintenance.
I always use it now to make sure all the moving parts don't seize.

I've had my D3 for 16 years. Operation of the handbrake is still fine, though I did replace a spring in the drum last year and generally clean/lubricate. No problems with the actuator.

The pivot on the rear of the shoes needs lubrication

Correct, hill start and auto release of the handbrake is where the working life of the shoes is utilised.
That said, poorly adjusted shoes or a worn corroded drum surface will accelerate wear. They are not used as a function of the HDC as this uses the callipers and ABS. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Having spent almost £1,000 about 3 years ago getting my EPB replaced, I religiously make sure I ask for it to be serviced.
However, probably due to the lack of use during lockdown it failed it's MOT on Monday for it 'excessively binding on the nearside'.
After getting it back yesterday it is now the quietist the EPB has ever been.Andy

I have a perfectly quiet and operational EPB at the moment on my 55 plate. I noticed just this last week however, that there is a slight bit of brake squeal when pulling away forwards after letting it off, so going to get it checked/cleaned/adjusted as a preventative measure... I've seen the YouTube videos where the EBP module has been replaced. What a pain!!
