Is EPB bedding in procedure required?
Replacing my EPB shoes later today. After new shoes are fitted and all put together I will do an EPB adjustment as per bible. After this, is the EPB bedding in procedure really required or will it be ok without doing this?
Edit- would you advise putting the EPB into mounting mode or is releasing it enough?

I never did the bedding in procedure when I replaced the discs and shoes. I did re-adjust after a week or so, and have had no issue.
I did the work with the EPB released, not in mounting mode. Richard

Why not do the bedding in procedure - it is easy to do and only takes a few minutes and does not require any special equipment - may save issues later.

myself I probably wouldn't.
I guess they advise it, so that if it were required in an emergency it would be fully functioning.
Where as normal use is unlikely to bed it in.

Think I may skip that part then. Most people I’ve spoken to have said they wouldn’t/haven’t.

I’m not sure of the value of it to be honest. I did it a couple of times, and no matter how careful I was with the initial adjustment, by the time I’d done the bedding in it needed readjusting and everything was red hot!

My perception is that the bedding in process gets rid of any point contacts, so in service the full friction material area is used. So any wear is spread over a wide area, not points. This will reduce the need to adjust the brake in the month after fitting the shoes.
So you can prob skip if you recheck the shoe adjustment. But that’s only economic if you are doing the task your self rather than having to go back to the garage a month after handbrake shoe adjustmentSeries one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)

Nope.
7.5 years two check adjustments and one strip down to trim off rotten back plate and fit new diwcs, zero issues.

I did do it but only because it's great fun, by the end of it, to be leaving huge black 11's down the road - christ it doesn't half stop you rapidlyD4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

I’ve done the bedding in procedure after diligently following all the prior steps in Bodsy’s brake bible. I did it in the middle of the winter, on snowy roads, but it was great fun to do. Also, the EPB is noticeably quieter than what it ever was before. Whether these two things are related I cannot say.

We've a steep hill outside the workshop
On the way down, the EPB will rarely hold on the hill
Once the bedding in procedure has been carried out, it will hold just fine. Maybe not essential for most, but its there for a reason My D3 Build Thread
