EPB fault and Display/Radio at same time

I've searched the forum as I'm sure I've seen a post with this problem but cant remember the fix

Symptoms. Shortly after starting the D3 and pulling away I get a parking brake failure message on the dash flash up, this then goes and the 4x4 Info screen appears to reboot itself along with the radio then the EPB error flashes up followed by the 4x4 Info screen and radio rebooting. This happens a few times and then all is normal.

If I leave the D3 for a short while say less than 30mins I can start a new journey and all is well however leave it for a few hours and then use it the symptoms return.

So whats changed

Dec 23rd: Fitted air compressor overhaul kit and 2 new rear air suspension units
Dec 24th: Fitted new alternator as old one was overcharging

Battery is probably 3 years old, IID is showing a voltage of 13.8V while driving and while parked up voltage is around 12.6V IIRC after 8 hrs of standing idle (will double check standing voltage as I'm doing it from memory)

Do you use the EPB, if so can you hear it operating on and also when going off. If so, EPB is possibly okay. It seems it may be a connector problem or the good old brake switch. Check your stop lights and see that both work okay.

Bit more investigation

Read the fault codes this morning and had more than I expected, 2 that stood out were

Parking Brake

C1A00-17 (A8) Control module - General electrical failure - circuit voltage above threshold
( on 14-08-2017 23:26:09 at 152972 km )

Transfer Case

P0563-00 (2C) System voltage high
( on 13-08-2017 22:51:47 at 152954 km )

Might suggest a voltage spike after standing

There was also

Body Control

B1B55-1C (6C) Rain sensor module - General electrical failure - circuit voltage out of range
( on 16-08-2017 05:58:33 at 153000 km )

B1D06-15 (28) Left turn signal circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open
( on 14-08-2017 00:36:28 at 152960 km )

B1D07-15 (28) Right turn signal circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open
( on 14-08-2017 00:36:28 at 152960 km )

B1D08-15 (28) Left trailer turn signal circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open
( on 14-08-2017 00:36:28 at 152960 km )

B1D12-15 (2E) Volumetric alarm power circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open
( on 13-08-2017 04:41:23 at 152920 km )

So this morning I plugged in the IID tool and monitored the voltages while driving to work. It didn't go above 15V and I didn't get the issue

Cleared faults before setting off and they haven't returned either

Will do the same on the way home tonight

Might be a loose or dirty battery terminal

Strangely that has been bugging me tonight, I disconnected the earth when changing the alternator back on the 26th and now I'm doubting myself as to whether I tightened it up Rolling Eyes

Fault has not occurred today, had IID plugged in and monitored live values and it behaved itself

Result, I now know what the problem is Very Happy

Its the alternator, seems to be temperature related as it happened again this morning, this time with the IID plugged in. External temp was about 2C.

Thinking back previous mornings when it has happened were all below 4C

Seeing voltage surges to 16V on IID live data but only during the 1st 5mins of driving

And did a Google search on this very topic and found a thread from a few years back on this forum with the very same symptoms but they were seeing nearly 17V

Alternator was returned and refund obtained. MF weren't too happy as they wanted me to have a replacement but insisted on a refund.

Ordered a new Denso from Advanced Factors and fitted and we are back in business

I am having a similar problem , radio & sat nav. switching off & on , at lower ambient temperatures , with the voltage surging between about 11.5 and 16V , for about first 30 secs, to a min. . I am just using a cheap plug in meter, wondering if the same problem. New LR Recon alternator fitted about 2 years ago.

Hi sorry to bring up an old thread.
I am having the same issue with over volt reported on parking brake.

Totally randomly driving along I lose the sound on radio and a flash of epb amber fault light.

Read the codes and I get voltage above threshold.
