EPB Squeal and jammed: anyone got the link to the how to?
Got in the car to go an pickup the caravan out os storage just now and the EPB squealed like a banshee when I put it in D, and now is locked on with the Park Brake fault on the dash
Does anyone have the link handy on the how to for releasing from inside the car?
Hoping I can release and then not use it, so we can get away this weekend and deal with it later?
Any ideas as to whether it is likely fubar'd or can be stripped and lube'd?
Cheers

The release cable is beneath the panel behind the gear shift. Put it in Park, remove panel and locate the release cable. Put long screwdriver through the release cable loop and whilst straddling over the centre cosnsole pull up with a decent force til it releases. Make sure you're in Park first though!!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Just done it thanks!!
Anyone know what the situation is now once the cable has been used to release?
Would a local garage be able to strip and lube etc?
Cheers

You need the codes read to determine what triggered the fault Often the springs which hold the shoes in place fall and become jammed between the shoe and the inner face of the hub causing a squeal. This does not sound like your problem, but it could be any number of issues. First thing is codes! Any garage worth its salt should be able to refit the handbrake internals, but you would be well advised to use a LR indy specialist.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I don't think his situation will warrant that level of heartache just yet! It should reset once the issue is diagnosed. Hopefully yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

In my 'local' garage today, where i know both the mechs personally to see if a straight fwd job to put it back together. We all agreed if beyond them, we will do nothing and I will take it to my LR garage to be relieved of many ££££
Thanks for the hep so far

Possibly , not easy to be certain with those codes. Can you find a LR Indy near you?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

It would not be common for the EPB module to pack it in. It is common to have an electrical issue / short or broken wire, or sometimes even a broken hand brake cable. An indy really is your best bet as the stealers generally live up to their name and sometimes posess the incompetence to match!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
