Oops, no metal fragments (stray blast media), nothing much in the filter, and this metal part looks a lot like a bit of cv joint, I had one shatter a while backā¦.how did it get in my drain tub though?

Is that fragment too large to have come out of the sump plug hole ? If so, more likely to be debris from your shattered cv joint, I would think.D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
Is the drain plug magnetic and just held on to this until you disturbed it?
Does indeed look like part of a CV joint..

As it was in the sump, I would be removing the pan and checking the lower engine parts.

Then the question would be "how did it get in the sump"

I doubt it was in the sump, probably in his drain pan - too big to come out of the drain hole.
