Experience with rear mount for spare tire on Disco4 pls?

Hi, does anybody here have a disco4 with a rear mount for the spare tire?

I don't find a lot of them, but I also need to make sure it's compatible with the front runner ladder on the back door. And I also would prefer not to have a rear mount that partly hides the right rear light and therefor needs to have its own "copy" rear light unit, I find that quite ugly Smile

Thanks for your feedback if you have a rear mount on disco3/4; and ideally also a ladder, and can confirm which combo works together Smile

I've asked this question also to frontrunner, but it may take some time for their answer.

Not a cheap option but the Rijidij one sits higher and more central than most. I’d would say there would be no issue with the FR ladder, Murray @ Rijidij would confirm. https://rijidijoffroad.com.au/products/dis...l-carrier/

I have the Frontrunner roof rack, ladder and spare wheel mount, as I have the the Frontrunner long range fuel tank installed. I’ve had no issues with the ladder and the spare wheel mount. Not sure what you’re talking about with the “copy” light, as all my lights are just fine.

hi kelvo, price is fine, quote i got is similar (but unsure what brand it is and whether it's compatible with frontrunner ladder; during the weekend this indie lr specialist doesn't answer email), i'll have a quick call tomorrow morning CEST to australia, hope they are still open then, thanks Smile

hi john, you have the frontrunner rear wheel mount? indeed one would expect it to be compatible with the frontrunner ladder; however, i can't find the rear wheel mount for d4 nor d3 on their website anymore (to order; i do find it on the lr disco4 "brochure" in pdf), it looks like it can no longer be ordered? will call them tomorrow morning as well

there are models of rear wheel mount that partially cover the right rear lights, so they have a slave/copy/third rear light on the rear mount itself to make sure cars behind you can still see you brake, reverse, use your right indicator light (eg like with some bicycle carriers); the further a rear mount comes to the center/left side, the more i fear that it may be uncompatible with a ladder though

I looked through a bunch of these recently. It also seems I hijacked a thread while doing that so... Milestone

See this thread going forward https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/swing-away-...37-30.html. Not everyone bothered answering and perhaps not everyone is in business anymore either.

Either Rijidij and Voyager would be my choice if budget wasn’t an issue. Both have excellent personal customer service and answered all my questions with plenty of patience. Rijidij had really nice instructions. Shipping from USA or Australia to Europe is unfortunately prohibitively expensive already by itself. Add 24% VAT and customs to that and it starts to become a problem.

The polish spare wheel carrier is the cheapest of the bunch but at the same time it looks rather ugly, too, in the pictures. I also dislike that the locking mechanism hides one of the rear reflectors.

Front runner has nice instructions and looks all business but TBH I thought they had ceased producing them as one couldn’t find any mention on their website. Some resellers had them but I didn’t ask whether it was something they had in regular stock, a leftover which couldn’t be ordered, etc.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

I'll have the TREKK rear mount installed; should be high enough to not interfere with the rear parking sensors, and also not blocking the right rear light unit

Starlight, have a look at www.nakatanenga.de D3/4 wheel carrier part number NARRTD34-VAPB

If you want to have a look at some the Bad Kissingen Arbenteur Allard show which is on mid June.

It is good quality and unlike others made from stainless steel

I can now confirm that the "Trekk" (a Belgian company with 4x4 accessories) spare tire rear mount is in fact the nakatanenga one. On the picture on their website, as kajtzu correctly indicated, they actually use the nakatanenga picture with the branding photoshopped away.

They don't do the same on the actual mount though. So my rear mount does still show the animal head logo and has the name label on the actuator.

I did mention the whopping 800 euro price difference (almost 2100 euro incl VAT when ordering online at trekk, almost 1300 euro incl VAT when ordering online at nakatananga) to my dealer, awaiting his reponse. I can accept that he prefers to buy with his Belgian importer/supplier for commercial reasons and for having hopefully better/faster after sales service when necessary. But 800 euro uplift, for something that comes from our neighbour country Germany (so eg not Taiwan or Hong Kong or China or South Africa, ...), that is steep.

As far as built quality goes: it makes an excellent impression, is very sturdy, well built, very well finished.

Hi everyone, I’m tagging this on the end of this because I have s problem.
I ordered a front runner swing away yesterday, today I’m told it’s discontinued and not available, the terrafirma one has also been discontinued according to Devon 4x4.
Apart from buying a arb bumper and kamar set up and importing it from the other side of the world, is this German one the only option? And how does it suit its users.
I wanted gas strut assistance and solid build and Ben at pro speed recommended fr as there one is on the back burner, but now....
so nakatanenga: experience please, ease of operation, opening one handed, opening on a hill etc

See above, I find the build quality to be very high level, perfect finish, rock solid and sturdy. It has a gas actuator. I can remove the safety pin with one hand. I can open the locking handle one-handed and the wheel gets pushed gently outwards by the gas actuator. For closing a gentle pushing with left hand on the tyre and close the handle with right hand. Insert safety pin.

One thing, contrary to documentation, it was necessary to tape off one parking sensor (third from the left) as it reacted to the mount.

No other remarks.

However... I am no longer able to find it on their site?? Have they also discontinued??
