In the process of doing mine with ali checker plate, moving the last
three slats back, so that the rear slat is nearly under the the rear
top cross bar. As the most foot traffic would be from the rear to about
just past the half way mark on the rack, I left the front two in place.
But I left the slots open on the front and back slats so that I can
use the old brackets to re-mount my awnings, just need to get hold
of some 8mm rivnuts to add some extra lashing points, have some
8mm male threaded eye bolts for the job.D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

I know that Klaus put Alu on the complete Expedition Roof Rack including the rounded front. He has drawings too.

Wanting to put some 3mm checkerplate on mine,
Want to do the same with my Rhino rack.
Anyone got any suppliers of 3mm plate - pref in black?I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
Any good? Not black anodised though.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Would the 2mm not do?
I imagine there would be a good weight saving dropping from 3mm or would the 2mm just not be strong enough for load/ wind?A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Good point there Tanters.
The rack is strong enough, so I suppose the thinner the better.
Al, thanks for link, but it doesn't work for me.

tanters, i'm going with the 2mm ali checker plate and see no
reason to go thicker. It would be a different story if you
use plain 2mm ali flat sheet as the checker plate process
makes it a stronger sheet. I would not go smaller than
3mm on plain ali flat sheet.D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.

Good job there Tony.
How did you get it black?
Did the sheet metal come like that, or did you have it sprayed/powdercoated?

Only used it once since doing it i got the must have everything bug but it does weigh a bit, takes two to put on now with the 3mm. Used it to get a shed home fully built, looked funny though CLUB DEFNER
