| Extra cable coming out of D4 Battery? |

Just gone to change the battery on my D4 - simple enough task i thought........ only to be slightly stu,ped by an extra cable protruding form the side of the battery (black in colour and roughly the diameter of a twin wire domestic lighting cable) 
Any one got any ideas what it is, and can i just pull it out?
- any guides to changing the D4 battery would be appreciated too! (surprisingly couldn't find one in a forum search)

Are you sure this isn't the breather pipe? Does it have a yellow pen mark at one end? If so, just pull it out.

Great shout - exactly what it is!! (makes me think i may be out of my comfort zone just changing a battery!)

Successfully done and car is working still  - although, i do now have a piece of black wire sat on my counter, that was loose int he bottom of the battery tray after i took the new one back out to get it seated correctly........looks like it was sat under the old battery, as its half squashed flat, like it's been there since day dot.  (so hopefully i've not pulled it out when putting the new battery in on top of it)
