EGR Valve type 2008 Euro 4

Hi Forum members. First time post for me, but I have been a casual observer for the last few years. I think I have gone through most of the Disco 3 faults Fog lights, Airbag wrng light, Suspension compressor, EPB etc. Now after 8 years and 48000miles I have to replace the EGR valves according to my Faultmate. EGR blanking is not on for me as I use the car in Germany and emissions and modifications are looked at closely come test time. I ordered 2 EGR valves from a local Auto factors (Euro 140 for both), he says they are the same as the Peugot/Citroen 2.7HDI versions. I know my engine is a Euro4 spec. So with a spare morning to do these I took the RHS apart then got my specially bought Torx30 tool to start unscrewing the failed items. Then I noticed that the new EGR valves have no thread to screw the Torx bolt into. Does anyone have any experience of this ? , my first thought is to put a nut and bolt in. Reassembled the RHS now, started to get cold outside. Big Cry FBH is working so that is some comfort Smile

I take it that there is thread on the old unit then? Otherwise I would say that the bolt passes through those holes and screws into the bit that the egr valve mates up to?

So I have been following the thread as I have fault codes relating to the egr A and C sensors reading high. Is this an indication of failed egr valves?
I had the bits off yesterday and cleaned up the egr ports, I haven't blanked them yet though I do have the kit as I feel that I'd rather have it working than blanked unless really necessary. The car pulls fine even towing the caravan. My issue is the delay pulling away due to a delay from pedal press to engine response. That could be just a remap fix.
Any ideas?

A faulty EGR valve will amplify the turbo lag, or lack of throttle response

Quite why anyone would go to the extent of removing the valves, cleaning them and refitting, when blanking is much quicker, cheaper and easier, is beyond me Confused

Laughing because you do it as a matter of course.

I started by wanting to clean the stubs, which went a bit further than expected. As my mindset wasn't in blanking mode I just carried on and put them back. But I can see how easy it is.... other than the offside bolts on the valve... a bit tricky to access down there.

But this has got me thinking, wouldn't it be so much easier just to remove the butterfly flap? I know blanking stops the EGR routing and deposits, which after 11 years wasn't that bad to be honest. However removing the flap opens up the airway anyway which is what happens when its hot.

I'm trying to maintain some effort in emissions though and wondered about this version of modding the EGR

Just removing the butterfly won't make any difference Thumbs Up

Blanks are fit and forget Thumbs Up

Emissions, probably best not open that can of worms again... Whistle

Hi, Recent disco 3 owner (58 plate). Have been suffering problems with EGR since I purchased the vehicle 6 months ago. Had it cleaned and carbon blasted and the smoke and lack of power comes back after a few weeks. Will the blanking option be available to me on this model? Sorry I haven't read through the entire post..

What is a Euro 4 Engine?

Hi Guys

My 1st post so please be gentle...

I have an 08 Discovery which apparently has a Euro 4 engine, I am trying to look for a solution to a faulty EGR valve. I have been told that it cannot simply be blanked off because of the Euro 4 engine and that it will need to be remapped. Can anyone recommend a company to do this in the Norfolk area?

Thanks

KC

Hi,

I recently went ahead and blanked my 58 plate Disco. Was running fine then all hell broke loose. All lights came on and suspension lowered and car went into limp mode. I'm now looking for a remap in and around Wigan area asap.

Hi. My name is Marcin and I'm newbie here and using D3.

After this long conversation about EGR I'm still confused.
Replace it or blank it. My is 56 reg Euro3.
I remember why I blanked EGR in my td5 but here? what kind of profits I can pick up when I'll replace or blank it?
Ok. I know that work time is shorter when you blank it and cheaper. but other reason pls. Bow down

Hi Forum members, Just an update to my EGR issues for my 2008 model. After I blanked both my EGRs and removed the butterfly flap I had about 6000miles free of EML warning light being on. When the weather started to get a bit colder the light came on permanently. Bit the bullet and went for a permanent fix with Flack at his Northern base. After a SW fix light is now out. Also notice the car was showing 3MPG more on the fuel meter. This could be also the fact that it is always downhill from Preston. Thank you Flack Great service Bow down

Hi Chaps,

It appears i have the dreaded EGR Valve issue.

I have the EML light on and very little performance below 2000rpm! Soon as i get about 2500rpm the car is fine.

I have read the error code and its P0489..

I have tried 1 bottle of Wynns EGR valve cleaner but to no real improvement.

Car is a 2007 57 Disco 3 with 129,000 on the clock. Do i need to bite the bullet and replace or blank them? Do you think its worth another tenner on wynns to see if i can get a cheap fix?

cheers
