Faulty Rear PDC

Rear PDC has just started to beep continuously when reverse is engaged even with nothing behind you. The only thing I have done is fit steering wheel controls, it did start right after this, though I was puting it down to coincidence. Have cleaned the sensors so no dirt on them. I do have a detachable tow bar but this has been fitted for some time and I never take it off.

Any ideas.

Thanks Andy

Andy ......

If you have cleaned the sensors then probably one is faulty , disconnect one at a time Thumbs Up

Thanks Tawny will do.

Do they just unplug and if so do you have to take the rear bumper apart in any way?

Cheers Andy

Yep , take the bumper cover off so you can access all sensors , just disconnect one at a time Thumbs Up

May be worth soaking the sensor end in a shallow bowl of warm soapy water in case a piece of grit has got down inside the sensor,

Think the sensors are around £28ish ??

Good luck Thumbs Up

How easy does the bumper come off Question , mine have been playing up the same way lately and if it's easy enough to do I'll do it myself.

Cheers Tawny

Will give that a go tomorrow. It's still under warranty so may just take it to the dealers though.

Cheers

Jumped in the D3 this morning and lo and behold the PDC is working as intended.

A self healing D3 Bow down .

I love my car.

Did it rain last night? Mine have been playing up too recently (except it’s the front ones) when it rains they work OK, if it’s been dry for a few days they bleep continuously. How easy are the front ones to do(swap)? Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Don't speak to soon..........!!

My discovery had the same issue, and cleverly self-healed........ only to fail again the following day!!

As Tawny Owl states, the rear bumper is a doddle to remove.

Once off, check the wiring loom carefully, mine turned out to have a minor break in it which was causing the intermittent fault.

New part from LR was about £23.

Again, very easy and self explanatory to fit.

Cheers, Chris.

I had issues with the front as well!!

The front outers can be accessed by removing the fog lights (It's a bit of a pig though!)

I found it easier just to remove front bumper - (Very basically - Bonnet up, grille off, headlights off, disconnect bumper looms, front wheel arch trims off; all of the bumper fixing points will now be evident)! Takes about 20mins to remove bumper with basic tools only.

Check all of the electrical connections are clean and secure, also check the loom hasn't been trapped or damaged.

In the end, I got a set of 4 genuine new ones off ebay, £60 inc. P+P.

All sorted and work brilliantly now.

Cheers, Chris.

No rain for me last night. I dought this is a one off I think the D3 is just a bit temperamental at times and we all have a few gremlins knocking about. I do like to think these gremlins fix things as well as break things.

But seriously dont know. Have not done anything more than give the sensors a wipe over with a damp cloth.

Will see how it goes thanks for all the replies.

Load of threads on removing the front bumper even a utube video think it was to do with fitting an A Bar.

Again "I love my car"

Andy

Thanks, the trouble is its working fine at the moment i.e. not bleeping continuously and bleeping when I approach something.
So I can’t do much until it packs up again……. That’s the problem with intermittent faults you are forever chasing your tail, I will wait a bit longer until it packs up again!!

Mine too... On and off, for a few days at a time.

Are the instructions for having the rear bumper cover off posted anywhere? Not overly technical, but if its relatively straight forward I wouldn't mind a stab!

Cheers all...
