If the weather is similar tomorrow as it has been today he will find out for himself. Just ask him to check underneath the car within a minute or so of starting, he should see a few puffs of smoke and he should get a whiff of the paraffin type of smell. Club Exped trailer

They come on there selfs ..temp 5 degrees or below , coolant temp below 75 degrees ( basically a cold morning )
You start the car ...wait a couple of mins and you should see smoke comming from the front passenger wheel arch ..or lean down and find the small exhaust and look for smoke or feel for hot air . There will also be a roaring sound from just in front of the battery ( thats were it is ) G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

And the exhaust tube gets very hot (hence burnt fingers on Saturday AM)

Could anyone say for sure how long the FBH usually stays on for?
Can it stop then come back on even though the engine has been kept running ? SOLD - 23my Range Rover Sport D300 Dynamic SE

Yes, it works off of a combination of external temperature and engine water temperature.

Yes it can and will do if very cold outside. Seen this when at Boughrood. Slow off road driving, wading in icy cold conditions.
It will also continue to run at engine off to burn off any fuel left in the system.
