FBH not starting with thermocall

Hi guys,

After reading and trying a lot I am posting... Confused

Big fan of the FBH idea and starting a hot engine in stead of a cold one.

So I installed a Webasto Thermocall (TC4) module to my 2011 D4 HSE without FBH remote.
Installation: power to the TC4 and the w-bus connected to the red wire of the webasto Thermo Top V.

I can connect to the thermocall with sms / app, asking voltage and temperature but the heater won't start.
If i tekst 'Start' it will send back: 'Message NOT executed: START (ERROR: Heater locked, please contact your installer!)'.

To what I can find / understand is that the on board computer has a CCF setting that has to be changed / Timed Climate has to be activated.
BUT if I ask this to all the garages in Antwerp they know from nothing.
Land Rover sends me to Webasto, and that guy sends me to Land Rover Banging Head
They all send me to the next guy that sends me to the next guy that... you know what I mean Big Cry

Can someone please assist in what needs to be changed so I can send and sms to the car so the FBH starts? All the other (heating the interior) would be nice too but I would be so happy just to start the FBH!
Or have I made an installation error?
Other fact: the heater starts when I start the engine when it's below 5C so it works just fine with very little smoke Very Happy

Sorry for the writing, and greetings from belgium!
thanks in advance,
Steven

Thermo top v on a D4? I presume it is a TT EVO or VEVO?

Either way.. is the W-bus wire from your TC attached top Pin 2 on the FBH?

I do not know the wiring colours on a D4 but pin 2 is the W-bus pin normally..

I do not know D4’s and if the ccf file has t be changed on them, but..

If the ccf file needs to be changed, a iid tool can help you out... just buy one.... looks expensive, but is not.... saves you a lot of money during your LR ownership ...

According to the internet pin 2 is the red wire 💪

I recently bought myself an Icarsoft multicar thing, so IID is only last last resort.. but I found someone with an IID that could help..we'll see.

Model is an early D4 so maby changed in later models?
Pretty sure it's a Top V:

I found a place that could activate the 'timed climate' and the 'remote climate' Milestone
He did say something about that there where 2 settings for the remote climate, radio and something else..

So today another (spoiler: disappointing) test.

Connected the thermocall again. Remembered the fuel tank was low (warning light on) but started testing.

after first start command the thermocall (lets call it he) replied: message executed: START (30m) Temperature 9.0C
The green light of the thermocall was lit up constantly, but nothing was happening.
after a couple of minutes still nothing happening so I send Stop and got the reply message executed: Stop
So I think it didn't start because the fuel was low, so I switched to summer and wanted to test the ventilation. after another start he replied Message not executed: start (Error: heater locked, please contact your installer!). I switched back to winter and got the same error message.

After that it all went belly-up.
Whatever I did all I got was the error message.
I went to get fuel but still the same message.
I tried 'resetting' the FBH by removing the fuse but still nothing...

Any suggestions on what I could try?

You know the fuel level is too low, and still you tried it to start..
Which is rather stupid...TBH ....the fuel pump sucks up air instead of diesel/fuel and goes in error mode and even get locked out.

It is not simply a fuel pump but a sophisticated meteringpump, integral part of the FBH functioning.

So air in the fuel line is only to solve with the proper diagnostic tool/software... who has the function to fill the fuel line again, “prime” (quite a few meter of line)..

So think before you do next time.

You can buy the k-line adapter for a laptop in the shop on the forum.. install the software and unlock it. BUT be careful also with this software... you can not just do “ everything” without knowing what the consequences are.... car’s are not by standard plug&play things...

With low fuel I only mean the standard dashboard light.. from my little discovery experience I think that means still 20 liters of fuel in the car, about 100km of driving.
To be completely clear - I drove to the fueling station.
The low fuel light should only prevent the FBH to start.

As far as I know, is the fuel line input from the webasto metering pump, higher mounted than the lowest input point of the engine fuel pump...

Today another small test, removed one battery connector for some time and tried again.

The first start got a positive response but the FBH did not start.
The second time I got the same error warning as yesterday.
Trying to start the FBH with the touchscreen in the car had no succes.

So the only moment it will start is start engine + <5°C.
I am going to try and check if that still works.

Getting a cable to connect is a good option, but i do not have a laptop to install the software so maybe I will visit the nearest webasto center.

To be continued...

@hoppy002

Did you not read my post throughly? If there is air in the fuel line.... you can start what you want... it’s not going to work I am afraid.. The line should be primed, so there are no air bubbles anymore.

Priming the fuel line is an function within the webasto workshop software tool

Also there are lockouts, only to unlock with webasto software...

Outside temp was about 10°C when testing.

This morning it was 3°C, and after starting the engine the FBH started just as it did before.

So it still works fine , just not starting with timed climate or thermocall.

So next step is trying to read / clear the fault codes as motolab suggests...do you suggest going to webasto or try and fix a laptop and cable?

well, since they will charge you a fair amount of money at Webasto i presume for the diagnostics/resetting action (if needed)
it could be interesting to have the webasto diagnostics yourself...

Martin, has the electronic parts for it rather cheap Wink

keep in mind:

when testing / activating your FBH as a parkingheater the coolant temperature must be below 40 degrees celcius, otherwise it won't start the FBH (because it don't "sees" the need for it , a Webasto setting)

starting rules in the Webasto software from the TTV for the auxilary function are different from as the rules for the parkingheater function (at least on a standard TTV) D3 or D4 version's may be different though)
