Thanks for putting this up, I've taken the plunge and ordered one of the controllers, once I have it put together I'll post up the results.

Cheers,

Barney

Personally I like to use my LR button for other things, but I guess you could.

Change the remote receiver module for a relay and diode.
Connect the relay coil 86 dip headlight
Connect relay coil 85 to ignition via a diode. (silver band to ignition)
Pins 30 and 87 contact wires to the white wires

Some ford relays have a diode built in.

I thought about the dipped light button but surely it would trigger each time the headlamps came on? Unless, thinking about it, the car's systems would override it?

Yeah when I made mine I used a temperature thermostat switch so when it reaches a set temp it won’t trigger unless below the set temp

That is why the systems use an ignition supply, so it won't work when the ignition is on,
and requirement for relay and diode above

Sorry to ask the stupid question but what is a relay with diode ? What’s the difference

Thanks both. Pete, that makes sense. I quite often use the follow me home lights when walking down to where the cars are parked so it wouldn't be that convienient from a personal point of view.

If you connect a relay coil up one way round to a battery and the wires swapped round, both ways it will click.

For this application, you only want the relay to click when the wires/polarity are the correct way round.
So you fit a diode in series with the coil contact.

diode built in on these :

So, the diode stops the relay from from working if the polarity is wrong. Is that right ? Ish

correct.

So it will trigger when the headlamp is ON but ignition OFF
All other 3 combinations it won't trigger the heater
