FBH start procedure

On my D3 the FBH (if God is with me) starts automatic when it is below like 5 C when starting the car.
How does it work on my new D4 TDV6 3,.0 MY -11? Have a remote control with on and off abd also the possibility to program on the screen in the car.
Does this mean that the FBH does not start automatic on a D4 when starting the car?

The FBH In a diesel , or in this diesel, is as standard “programmed” to work as a auxiliary heater, to keep its passengers also warm enough inside if it is colder than 7 degrees Celsius... (because the engine is so efficient, that it is in need of some help, some times)
This is done with a temp sensor..

As an option, it can be installed as a parking heater.. with a clock and or remote to pre warm the car’s engine and (sometimes) cabin, independent of the outside temperature (as long as the coolant is colder than 40 degrees Celsius)

What exactly is fitted in your car (incl magneto valve or not, etc.) I do not know, but if the remote and panel is enabled, BOTH the auxiliary function and parking heater function are there...
 Best regards
Harold

Not really the question I asked.
Just interested in the starting procedure of the FBH when cold outside.
And as a parking heater for the engine.

This is the setup in the D3. No cabin heater.

Maybe someone knows if it is a different setup in the D4.

Anyway I want to know if the FBH goes on automatic when cold when starting the engine (as in the D3)

Yes the D4 is fully automatic and will start if certain conditions are met the same as the D3.
With your new D4 it sounds like you also have timed climate control that will also allow you to preheat the car.

Yes I did answer that....

(Panel clock is only available in D4)
(Auxiliary function is what you call automatic startup when you start the car)
(Parking heater is with your remote or panel, but to what extend it is fitted, magneto valve or not (cabin heat preferring over engine or not) only you can see in the engine bay)

I have tried to find about the auxillary function in the owners manual, but have not found it.

It is just a lot written about the remotecontrol and the timer.

What is more worrying is that it clearly says that starting the engine shuts off the FBH. This is not how it works on the D3.

Have I understood something wrong?

yes i think so Confused

In your user manual is also nothing written about your EGR valve's or dynamo, etc..

the auxillary function is simply not an option or user regulated feature, just a automated function.

the parking heater function on the other hand is a option/user regulated feature, same as the airco, that is why..

only if you pre heated your car with the parking heater function (which can be done below zero, but also if it is 15 degrees celcius, (as long as the coolant is not hotter than 40 degrees celcius)) it shuts off as you start your car.

As the auxillary heater function only works below 7 degrees celcius, regulated by a tempsensor, it starts/ runs always, as long as the coolant temp is at least below 40 degrees celcius... (may be more, not sure). so these functions kind of supplement each other...

if you pre heat your car at minus 20 degrees, warms up for about half an hour, it maybe stops at a engine start BUT wil startup again after the engine start, if the coolant temp is still too low for good cabin heating.

to be short: no worries, if everthing is technically sound, it wil work as it should Very Happy

Just started the car.
Around 0 C.
No start of FBH.
Did diagnosis and test with IID. Everything OK.

Why did the FBH not start when I started the engine?

was your engine 100% cold?

if the watertemp is (still) 40 degrees celcius it will not start, because there is no need for it..

does it start with the remote? does it start when you start it with the iid?
 Best regards

Hi,

If you have less than a quarter tank off fuel the FBH will not auto start.
I think, but not sure, that if it senses low battery voltage it will also fail to start?

Ian.

Check your ambient air temp and engine temp sensor readings you may have a faulty temp sensor and the car thinks it to warm to operate.

Hi, does it start up if you have the cabin heater on? Mines seems to run a lot of the time when temperatures are low and I’ve got the the blowers on
