Feed back on sluggish transmission shifting |
|
Would like any feedback on transmission shifting poorly.
I found lately that when starting, and in park, shifting to reverse, and then into "D" the transmission hesitates 5 sec. before moving forward; not an issue in a parking lot, but scary when moving into traffic.
When driving on, (early, when the engine is still cold?) and coming to an intersection, the transmision seems to enter "N" mode, giving it gas, the engine reves, 5 sec. before it kicks in. merging to traffic is .....unpredictable!!..
When engine warms, (15 - 20 min) issue disappears.
Reputable South Carolina dealer (previous D2 work) comments not credible, " ...all LR3 do this.... drive/shift by wire, is not the same as conventional.... Jo

one thing to try is :
unlock doors, start her up, drive in manual mode through each gear up the road. Stop. Reverse. stop. Get out D3 and lock her up. Open her up again and restart.
While doing this wait until each gear number appears in Message Centre before changing up.
This is a reset trick that may work for you.
Let us know how it goes.
Cheers,

Yes I can relate to this. I see yours in the V6 petrol engine, mine is the diesel. I do find the throttle response a bit slow when the engine is cold, but I had not thought of it as a fault.
Your dealer is correct, the D3 has a drive by wire throttle, and they do give the impression of lagging behind the accelerator pedal. I am used to it.
When I am slowing down, the torque converter disconnects the gearbox from the engine (the revs drop to idle speed) at about 12 mph. If I re-apply throttle before the vehicle has come to a complete halt, there is a pause - not 5 seconds though, and sometimes the pick up is not very smooth, but again it has always been like this.
I had a D2 V8 before which did not have an electronic throttle, when I first drove the D3 it did seem rather hesitant, but now I am used to it.

Is this supposed to reset the "adaptive" shifting pattern? Blue

Tried all the suggestions , w/ no change.
When placing the car in 'park' the key did not extract also. Only when pushing the shifter handle firmly to 'P' did the key come out.
Went to the dealer today, amoung other issues (suspension fault indicator for no reason, 4 logged faults confirmed and compressor replacement was waranted), suggested to dealer that the contact points for "Park" may be out of alignment . Technician found the shifter cable adjustments out of tolerance, both in the top ( 'P position) and the bottom ("D" position).
Non seasonable weather (15C) presently in South Carolina.
Cold snap (0C) is coming this weekend and will test if any improvement.
I'll give feedback next week Jo

I noticed this a few times over the festive period whilst backing out of the in-laws frozen and snowy drive (sometimes at an indicated -3C). When switching from R to D, it appeared to be in N, as pressing the accelerator only revved the engine; shifting it from D to R and back again seemed to cure it. Could possibly have tried moving the gear stick left and right (ie from normal to sport, and back again) to achieve the same thing. Irritating, but not the end of the world.
Will mention it to dealer when the car goes in for other problem to be addressed - see soon to be posted post re steering vibration.

Cold shifting this weekend was highly improved. No sluggishness when shifting to drive when cold; reacted immediately. I reviewed the text on the workorder made out by technician. Although he made adjustment to the shifting cable, I recogized that he also re-configured the ECU. Now I don't know what actually fixed the issue.
Will keep on Rovering Jo
