Sorry your car caught fire but it wasn’t MOT’d and you drove it whilst it didn’t have an MOT. To be honest the only person at fault is you re the MOT and not your insurer. You are responsible for ensuring it is road worthy and legally allowed to be on the road. How does you insurer know your car was road worthy?

Apologies if this is a bit strong but you lost me on the rant about your insurer and ownership.

Section 3. of the Hatings policy is quite clear

Quote:
You should maintain your Car in an efficient and roadworthy condition and have a valid
Department for Transport Test Certificate (MOT) if one is needed by law.

• You must give your Insurer access to examine your Car and if asked send them evidence
of a valid MOT and/or evidence your Car was regularly maintained and kept in a good
condition.

The insurance company took the car to have the engineers assessment done and repair as necessary, they are required to collect car from RAC and do engineers report within 48 hrs, so they are required to have an engineers report completed within 4 days after i call to make a claim,

This company had the car 2 weeks and didnt even look at it, there has been no engineers report done, i was told it was done so i requested the car back and after delivery they told me they had not had time to look at my car yet.

Some bitch on the phone told me i am not allowed to get the car back before an engineers report is complete without forfitting my right to make a claim.

All of the above tactics are illegal and insurance companies have been told not to behave in this way

If you think all these things were done because of no MOT think again as they did not know about the no MOT thing until day 16

Hope you understand now,

Also i forgot to mention the lady from the salvage team told me i had to send her the v5 or they would not be able to do the engineers assessment, also completely bahaving like gangsters trying to get hold of MY car for themselves, they are not having my car, it is mine, not theirs, and trying to put fear into me about losing out on a claim for not handing the car over is completely outragous and this is when i called and made formal complaints about all of this, they said they would never do such things but when i told them i record all conversations they put me through to someone who can log formal complaints and seemed to be the only agent there who had been given any training of how to do their job.

LOOK on the forums search for hastings direct and you will see they are voted the worst insurance company and have done the same thing to everyone trying not to pay out, I also see on the forums some insurance companies just behave normally when it comes to claims and just pay out quickly as to help the customer get back on the road as soon as possible, hastings do the opposite.

I understand that i had no MOT, and that could invalidate my insurance

Thanks for your input so incredibly helpful for me now here in this situation asking for help. Please post more and more helpful comments as i am trying to get as much useful help here as i possibly can before i head off to Italy and leave this backwards narcissistic inbred depressed self satisfied miserable country full of people who are not even happy to be alive or even realize that there is more to life than just picking fault with other people instead of embracing change and bettering themselves by not beleiving they are perfect so as to learn and become better human beings.

I am off to sunshine and culture, keep your pound sterling and keep moaning, i will be on the beach.

Don’t let the door hit you in the back on the way out.

And congratulations on winning the ultimate flounce award, but thanks for the amusing rant.

Well I just saw the post before it was removed.
Just for the record, I've come back from watching the Springboks beat Argentina in the Southern Hemisphere Championship at a party with fellow SA ppl here in GB, hence why I'm replying now. I actually wanted to catch up on a couple of posts I'm following.
Whatever sympathy I had for this individual has now gone.
As mentioned; driving a vehicle illegally (knowingly or not!), blaming an insurer for not paying out, and, that because a South African appears to own it, we are all to blame?
I enjoy this forum because we love all things Land Rover (in general) and Discovery (in particular).
It has been an infinite source of knowledge to Land Rover/Disco owners around the world, hence the specific sites in Italian, French, Spanish, etc.
Why would you post something this offensive, not thinking that African Forum members would not take umbrage??
I have calmed down and think the previous posts have explained enough.
Shame on you Sir!

No MOT and I bet it wasnt service correctly. The fire may have been caused by something that would have been picked up on either.

I don't think you're going to get much help here with that attitude Laughing

The irony of your post is unreal and I refer specifically to the use of the word 'miserable'.

Enjoy Italy and I hope you find happiness Thumbs Up
