FIRE - FIRE - FIRE

This is not a joke!
I have recently placed my vehicle into a northern Australian Dealer to repair my vehicle after a fuel fire rendered it undriveable.
Fire caused by fuel (diesel) leaking onto exhaust near LHS injectors and main battery. The leak happened during the day between 7am and 2pm. The leak was rom an injector return line. It appears that there is a 'clip' that secures the hose/pipe to the injector. This clip broke and allowed fuel to leak from the injector.
The Insurance Co has a bill of around $30,000 so far) and wife and I are stuck in Darwin for about 5- 10 weeks (nearest guess) at my own expense. Lucky I have a van and now living in the sister-in-laws yard.
I always carry an extinguisher and Navy training helped when I put it out.
I could not tell it was alight until I stopped for a cuppa at a roadside reat area. Very lucky we stopped as it could hve been much worse. Other travellers who stopped said they saw smoke comming from underneath the car 200 kms earlier as we drove past their rest area.
Dealer will investigate with LR and determine if there have ben any other occurances of this in the past.
If anyone has info like this please let me know.
You will not be able to see much from the top of the engine so look underneath and look for the dreaded WD40 type of leaking on the chassis etc.
Regards,
Gary

There was a recall on the HP fuel pump for later model MY06 and MY07 models with the Euro IV engine. The pump could end up spraying oil all over the engine bay.

Check your VIN number and see if in is in range. Idea

Lucky escape! A friend of my Dad's wife parked there D3 up when dropping the kids off at school, and luckily took the dog and every human being out as she came back and it had set itself on fire. Car was under warranty and LRUK said that they would have to claim on their own insurance to replace the car. Very poor show in my opinion.

Hope you have some luck with this!

cheers

There was an article in an old LR mag about a D3 bursting into flames. They were towing a caravan and manged to get in a layby and get the 'van off before the car was totally gutted.

Scary stuff.

The owners of the D3 were George and Mags Maclay of GEMM 4x4 in Larbert. Vehicle was quite new and IFAIR, the cause was never established.

There was also a forum member's D3 burned itself out in Harris couple of years ago, plus another bought & restored one after the FBH set itself alight. While rare, these fires are not unknown. Sad
