We have been to the plains in our old D2, I only bought the current one in February and been spending all my time modifying it for my trip to Strat Florida a few weeks ago..
However we will definately be taking it to the plains soon, and maybe a bimble around the Ridgeway.
Not sure if the D3 will go out and get dirty although the wife did mention it today that she could take it and be posh !
We originally hail from Bournemouth so know the area quite well.

Agree the PCV valve is a no-brainer. For what it costs and the 5 mins it takes compared to the issues associated with one failing, just do it.
Something else that's a known issue with the V8s seems to be the fracture of the thermostat housing. I knew we were losing coolant slowly, but hadn't really monitored. Also - due to the known issue with the coolant float - rather stupidly had ignored the screen message. Luckily my wife checked the coolant (which is more amazing than one can comprehend) and it was low.
I've been tracing oil leaks on a classic car and bought a black (UV) light for that purpose. I thought it may help with the coolant issue so stripped off the engine cover and found the leaks in 2 seconds. Couldn't see it at all under normal light. Amazing. LR coolant is in the perfect wavelength (385nm) for my torch.
I've found the thermostat housing part number from (LR005765) which is just the plastic housing and the thermostat and o ring for $40. It arrived today, but sadly is broken so needs to go back.
Worth checking.
I also did the sunroof drains but would strongly recommend modding the pipework rather than just replacing the hose. It's a crap system. I joined the existing hose to a new pipe that went far lower down inside the outer wing. Much less likely to fail. The right hand side is easier. I should probably clean them through again.
My Satnav doesn't work, which is annoying, but I think that's the drive. Can't afford a new one so that can wait.
I carry a spare brake light switch and boot release cable (and the tools to do it). Other than that, I really like the V8. I was quite lucky with my purchase. 65k miles, two owner. FLRSH - until now. The car is immaculate, although was perhaps slightly over-priced. Runs nicely. Not fast by any stretch, and nowhere near my last STDV6 (I think I had 4 of those over the years - loved that engine). The V8 is super quiet; probably has about the same oompf as a TDV6, although my 07 TDV6 was mapped.PAGODA

I wouldn't get too concerned about the nav, mine does work but I still tend to use google maps on my phone...
Will look into the pcv. Mine already has a leak in the thermostat housing so thats my first job to do.
Not bothered with Sat Nav, I rarely use the one in my new Golf, however I use Waze every day on my phone.
Will be scouring this forum looking for nice mods to do on it.*D3 V8 SE Blue 2004 on LPG with Rock sliders, roof rack/Ladder, snorkel, 275/65x18 STT Muds, engine/G/box ally protection.

Thanks for the info chaps, thermostat housing and 'T' piece may be the next thing on the to do list.
Black light for tracing oil leaks sounds interesting... will do some investigation on that. Will certainly save me some time when working on the other toys.
Got a couple of other bits done on the D3 this weekend, firstly went in for tinting on Friday, looks much better for it too in my opinion
Also test fitted all the Exmoor trim seat protectors, just need a quick run through the washing machine and then I'll stick them on - reduces the chance of me smearing oil and grease on the seats and upsetting SWMBO.

I need to do my front valve block, and my condenser too.
I must be at least half way thorough the common problems now, the problem is when I get to the end, the ones I have replaced at the start will need replacing again 05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey

I had two things to do this weekend; update the nav with a late disc I managed to get hold of and raise the tow hitch so it's at a decent height for towing the car trailer.
Thought I'd start with the nav... went to update see what disc was currently being used and this pops out
So new disc inserted and ...nothing. I even watched a couple of vids online from powerfuluk and tried to follow the same procedure. So what am I missing?
Also I'm assuming that the system doesn't need the nav disc to be in there to function?!
Oh well I thought, onto the tow hitch... yup failed miserably there too! Not a chance of undoing the allen lugs or the bolts no matter what I tried... including with the air gun.
On a positive note, it gives me an excuse to buy a bigger gun!

Well it had to happen sooner or later... Engine management light came on tonight.
Now my initial theory is possibly because I've run it for half a tank on petrol and the emissions sensors don't like it after LPG.
Anyone with similar experiences?Disco 3 V8 with added LPG

Never happened to me, in fact there are some who say you should do a hundred miles or so every so often on the hard stuff. But that said they are prone to intermittent EML on if the set up is even a tiny bit out, mine does it occasionally, you need to get the fault codes read and cleared.==================================
