England

They were english guns, although Mrs D has said that they have a lot of American and European bookings this year, more than usual.

The mink pop it's head out of a pond drain. He shouted to me to stand the other side to make sure it didn't come out. Someone brought his gun, he squeaked it out, then boom Razz

Never had a duck day. Do you just go from Pond to Pond? Been on shoots where there are Duck as well as something else but not just Duck.

There are a number of flight ponds with mallard released on to them. Basically they walk the duck off the pond out into a field and gradually fly them toward the guns who can be anywhere, in fields, in woods, all depending on how challenging they want the birds to be. There is a wild duck pond that is shot over twice a year.

They also have pheasant on this shoot, a lot of pheasants, but they don't start till mid to late october. The days will be mixed bags from then.

Sounds Good. We have a few ducks on our shoot that are silly enough to get in our way on occasion!

Is there a closed/open season for shooting magpies? And if it's ok to do so, will a .22 high powered air rifle do the trick or do I need a a bigger gun? Absolutely plagued by the blasted things!

There's no closed season for magpies. No worries about shooting with air rifle, I do it myself. Best way though, for large numbers is a Larsen trap.

If you want the technical definition they are protected, but subject to a general licence that allows you to kill them in certain circumstances. You are meant to have tried non lethal methods first before resorting to lethal ones.

For me in the spring I run out in the garden each morning and say be off with you, you corvid scallywags. Then I try placing a larsen so I can humanely release them elsewhere. If I am still bothered by them I shoot them we an air rifle, I prefer a .177 myself. Most years I just have to shoot the resident pair. Getting the first is hardest, once you have him mount him in your larsen and his mate will soon be down to chat to him, thus enabling you to reunite them! If you don't shoot them too early no other pair will frequent your garden thus enabling your garden birds to breed in peace - except for cats and sparrowhawks Twisted Evil
