Fitting a GVIF
Can somebody tell me what's involved in fitting the GVIF?
I've just got SWMBO an '05 HSE with screen/nav/Logic7 etc. and want to add a reverse camera for her. She won't want to do the screen code method every time she reverses, and the RR hack isn't the way I really want to go, so even though it's a bit expensive I'm thinking GVIF.
Other than the reverse cam I don't have any need to add further AV stuff, although I am thinking of adding DAB to the stock radio via a Kinetic Digitizor. Perhaps the GVIF gives me other options for that solution too?'

You’re welcome. With D3 being quite mature most of the things one wants to do have already been done by someone else. Searching is your friend.

Cheers Kajtzu, I've spent the last 24 hours searching the forum before posting and obviously hadn't seen that. In fact I've been a member on here for nearly 15 years since getting my first Disco 3, so I'm quite up to speed with protocol, just rubbish at finding things
At first sight the document looks very daunting, but the first 11 pages cover how to get a power feed to the unit, and there's just one page about fitting it, so the job is actually quite do-able.'

I fitted mine using that guide. You don’t need to remove the passenger seat, quoting from the guide
‘Next, lift the passenger seat (or driver seat for LHD cars) all the way up and slide it fully forward. This will provide good access to the area where the GVIF will be installed.’
You just raise it to max. and slide it forward. There’s enough room underneath to sort the wiring and position the GVIF.
It is a bit of a task but the guide is excellent, I took my time and did it over a weekend.

ComedyHarvey, Did you take power from the front or rear lighter socket?
If I only need the GVIF for interfacing a reversing camera can I do without permanently fitting the IR receiver and/or source selector switch?

Pretty sure that I took it from the front lighter socket.
I’m just wondering about the souce selector.
Certainly the reversing camera when set up, with it’s power from the reversing lights, cuts in automatically when you select reverse.
The sat nav is the default display when I turn the ignition on and the source selector enables me to scroll through 3 other inputs (one I have for a trailer cam, one for TV and one spare).
So, yeah, I guess you don’t need the source selector button if you only want Sat Nav and reverse cam.
Not sure I’ve got the I/R receiver??

Ta. I think I'll just coil the selector up under the seat 'just in case', but by the look of things I won't need it. Thanks for your help.
(I need to find the leak into the footwell first, otherwise the GVIF will need scuba gear)

Sounds like a plan, just coiling the selector and lead up and tucking it out of the way.
It was 8 years ago that I fitted mine so my memory might be a bit hazy on some details.
Anyway, good luck with it.

It as easy to to fit the selector as it is to not fit it, same with the remote receiver, run the cables under the plastic strip along the bottom of the front passenger door up inside the “A” pillar interior trim and stick the remote receiver in the top corner of the screen, you will need it to set the reverse camera up, set the reverse guide lines and centralise the screen, continue the cable for the selector behind the glove box to the top of the centre “H” trim and stick it beside the the other switches nearest the driver as you will use it a lot particularly if you fit a front camera in the center on the front bumper at a later date, a cheap £10 Chinese camera will give excellent results.
You can set the dip switches to your choice of inputs, I found a forward facing camera just as useful as the rear camera, they enable you to see over the bonnet for hidden objects, animals, children and stupid stumpy car park posts, particularly useful for women drivers.
If you make changes to the dip switches note what you have done and note the changes will not take effect until the car has gone to sleep(brake light gone off) and woke up again, stating the dip switches is the part peeps have difficulty with.
The rear camera must be connected to the grey wire specific for the rear camera for it to work automatically.
You’ll find everything you need to know here:

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I cheated - I told google “site:disco3.co.uk gvif install” and magically it knew what document I wanted
