Fitting Rear Access Ladder |
|
I would like to fit my rear ladder. I have looked at the instructions which, for LR, seem to be pretty straight forward (one of their better works of art).
Can anyone just explain the steps in plain and simple English to me please?
How long should this job take?
Thankyou in advance...especially TFC

Hour at the most.
Remove the trim on the inside of the top half of the tailgate (remove 1 screw, then pull it off), trim around catch simply pulls off.
Remove outside handle (4? torx screws along bottom edge, 3 screws from the 'inside') remembering to unplug the cable for number plate light/handle
Drill out the indicated holes to 9mm?
Fit blind nut rivets
Stick sticky bits to ladder
Fit ladder in place, bolting into nut rivets at the bottom
Refit handle and trim in reverse. Handle fittings go through the ladder plate, further supporting it.
Remember to clean door at top so sticky pad sticks properly. Question marks above are because I'm doing this from memory - CHECK FIRST!!!! Disco 5 HSE Lux

No, too busy yelling at the kids - and dropping the ladder And shutting the door half way through to see what it looked like without reconnecting the cable for the handle. Don't do that - especially if you've only got a 4 and 6 year old at hand to help..... Disco 5 HSE Lux

Ah yes, as per Discostu, when fitting my ladder I forgot to reconnect the door release, and kids were also my excuse. I had already found out about the emergency release, by holding both dashboard key buttons for more than 3 seconds, but failing to reconnect meant restripping off the interior trim with the door firlmy closed , yes I had shut it to admire handywork..so be warned, dont forget to reconnect, it seems obvious!
The rivnut gun thing worked fine though.. Don't put it off, go for it!
