Fixed tow bar removal.

Afternoon all,
I am trying to remove the fixed tow bar from my D4. The type I have doesn't have any lever or keys. There is a small 13mm bolt on the top which only seems to stop whatever comes out of the small front hole with the rubber bung in. I took the bung off and expected to see a small bolt but there seems to be a thread and nothing else inside. I have already unbolted the chassis strut bars off either side. Can anyone point me as to what I need to do. Thanks

I've not seen that type of tow bar before, but I would guess (and it is a guess based on what I can see in the picture) that you take the bolt out completely, take the rubber bung out, and screw the bolt in the hole. Tighten it up with a spanner or socket, until it pulls the locking pin out. It is probably a similar principal to the removable tow bar, but without a plastic handle and a key. The tow bar should just drop when the locking pin is retracted.

Hi,

not had a fixed bar so dont know Question
but it uses the same receiver (just visable in your pic) so having a look at the removable bar may help you to see what locks it in place ?

or have a look back (search) the for sale thread for a pic of a fixed bar when off the car

(looking at the photos the Witter one is closest)

Congratulations mate you are the winner. I did exactly what you said and out she came. Bow down Simple when you know how. I am switching to a detachable as I only pull a very small trailer now and again. Thanks again everyone for your help. Wink
P.s Luapno, Thanks for the instructions, It was the Witter one.
