Footballers reject wage cut

Censored Censored just heard that 30% wage cut has been rejected saying about how much revenue that tax etc would be lost to the NHS if they are so worried why not swap wage packets for a month with your average NHS staff. Who are on the front line putting their selves at risk minimum PPE working long hours with all the stress etc they are experiencing. Just makes me so angry never was a football fan but this just makes me so angry Censored Censored Censored

What do others think on this topic Question

"What do others think on this topic Question"

We all know that doc's, nurses, and all the front line staff are doing a marvellous job. Right down to the store workers and care workers, cleaners. etc.etc.
My hat goes off to all of them. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hoever......
Back to our thoughts

Just a quick google reveals the taxes some will be paying.

Income Tax rates and bands
Band Taxable income Tax rate
Personal Allowance.......... Up to £12,500 0%
Basic rate................ £12,501 to £50,000 20%
Higher rate........ £50,001 to £150,000 40%
Additional rate over........... £150,000 45%

Income Tax rates and Personal Allowances - GOV.UK

Therefore some could and will be paying more in a week taxes than some earn in a year already.
Then where would you draw the line?
pop stars!
actors!
film stars!
co's!
etc.etc.etc
For me, i say they made their profession leave em be. Good luck to the BIG earners.

No I'm not a football fan either, No i'm not on that list at all.
I am just a retired old codger with no income. However i don't begrudge someone earning big money.

Just my thoughts Thumbs Up

Stay safe

MP's received a 3.1% pay rise last week, salary up by the best part of £3000

I think the real issue is that the people in the football industry on ordinary money are getting anywhere between zero and 80% of their usual wage in most cases.

The players are still getting their humongous pay packets each week and were asked to take a cut to ensure the other staff got better deal.

I think the issue is that to take such a cut when you earn hundreds of thousands of pounds per week, is that the tax paid would be reduced by a significant amount.

The moral argument is very clear, but the fiscal consequences are also there.

My personal view is that they should take a cut, if only to ensure the survival of the game, because if it doesn’t survive, they and the back room staff are all out of work.

Cut their pay, donate the tax that would have been paid to the players to NHS or NHS focused charities. Clubs & NHS are in a much better position, players on phone number salaries are still being paid enough to keep them complaining in the life style they’ve become accustomed to. Sorted. Thumbs Up

The PFA claim that reducing premier league stars pay by 30% (£500 million) would reduce taxation by £200 million and harm the NHS, what Censored , for a start £200 million is peanuts compared to the total UK NHS spend and the cost of this Pandemic.

Secondly I thought the idea was so the clubs could pay the backroom staff and not furlough them, so the government will not have to pay out the furlough costs and they will also get tax and NI from the backroom staff pay, which will far outweigh the £200 million in lost revenue from the players.

AndI had to laugh Aron Ramsey was being lauded the other day for giving £20,000 to the NHS, reality its equivalent to the average Worker giving about £35, not anything to shout about really.

And let's not forget how often footballers are caught out for tax avoidance... Wonder how many are actually paying UK tax at the published rates?

At that sort of weekly income, they can afford their own accountant to ensure minimal tax liabilities

Why else do you think they all run around in supercars

Perhaps it might just be better to fund front line NHS services properly for now and the future
Too many fat cats with their noses in the trough creaming off cash that should be used to nurse folks back to health or see out their days pain free.
