Hi PaulP, bear in mind it isn/t actually a fitment as it just "plugs" in to the same " socket "as the standard hitch does. Maybe someone was trying to smuggle an entire Discovery out of the factory a bit at a time?

the part is advertised in certain LR parts catalogues, certainly Guy Salmon in sheffield had it listed when i enquired about a totaly different part, it is the NAS spec 2" reciever and if any one has the contacts for shipping in the states well worth looking at the other accessories that can be fitted

martin

No need to buy from the states, Ive got one of the US spec tow recievers, and I ordered it from a UK dealership last Wednesday and picked it up Friday, and its a damn sight cheaper that the standard towball.

I believe Scorpian do a range of fittings with a 2" adapter on them, and other members on Disco3. also make parts for it.

Regards

Ringo

Scorpion seem to do a 2" part with winch tray Shocked

That could be interesting! Still, not sure I would want to buy things from a company that stole their logo, calls into question their other business practices in my view!

I don't believe they are, but nothing wrong with using them "off-road" or as a mounting point for a rear winc tray or bike rack.

Have spoken to my local dealership ( Morrisons ) who checked the original order/delivery form and there was no mention of the receiver although the leather upholstery and sidesteps were there so it looks like its a very large scale version of the usual spare nut/bolt or screw that you always find lying somewhere when you get a new car!
Its of no use to me so I'll pop it onto the "For Sale" page and try for a straight swop for a second-hand plug-in towball which I do want. Grateful thanks to all who provided info and advice!!

I'm confused here - surely Land Rover who make these parts for the US market must amke these to a certain standard. I'm in florida just now and every 4x4 uses these recivers and they seem to be pulling some pretty big and heavy trailers.

I have one on my defender 90 - mainly as the original tow bar was acting as a plough off road - bought from Scorpoin !!!

What is the remit here - Are they legal to use or not - in the UK - Any one able to give a definative answer

From a technical point for use in the UK it should have construction and use or EU specification \ approval.....but all thats a bit academic unless the wheel comes off ( so's to speak) Wink

More info here from the all knowing scots Laughing
