Took the disco 3 in for a routine 30 point check to Land Rover and they said that the front ball joints were slightly worn and will need replacing. Has anyone had any experience with replacing the parts and how much the whole job would cost if you wee to do it yourself. Could do with instructions with images ect.
Thanks

Using the search function with "+front +ball +joints", found this excellent how-to on page one :

Transgenic tomato anyone?

if you go down the route of replacing yourself make sure you ask for
Part number RBK500230
This is the later 35mm ball joint used and NOT the earlier RBK50040 TLO has left the building.......

Nick, would you need to order a new lower arm as well, or does it come as a complete assembly?

Thank you very much guys for your contributions and constructive comments.
Just a quick question on the ball joint.
Does it need to be greased before it goes back into the arm.
Thanks Don't be blinkered vision, see the world in colour.

Wouldn't hurt to put Copperslip grease on splines so it's easier to get out next time No grease on taperer part though.

You could if you wanted but not necc if just replacing the ball joints
If you were talking bushes then that would be different...From past experience in the wqorkshop they can be a nightmare if the bolts are rusted in TLO has left the building.......

Mine will be out of warraty in a few months, so I had 2 arms with ball joints exchanged under warraty yesterday.
They said 1 ball joint was pretty bad and the other was about to quit too.
Is this normal after 30.000 km's ?
And should i expect this every 30.000 ?
As a side remark - also have a lower steering column on order for a warranty repair. Foot of accelerator, rolling at 20 km/h, making sharp turns side to side there is a loud knock that can be heard and felt when turning steering wheel past straight ahead.
Cheers
Jakob
