Front Brake pads

I will be changing my brakes in the next couple of weeks, the front pads are down to 5 mm.

I went to the dealers today, and got some for £40 inc VAT for genuine parts. Kit contains everything required including new springs and caliper bolts (except brake cleaner and brake grease).

I will post the "How Do I" when I've done it.

That's good value Very Happy

How many miles have you done???

What the lowest thickness the pads can go down too?? 5mm sounds quite a lot still.

Cheers

I believe when they get to a set limit a light should come on in the dash

A light ? Like all the lights we get already ? Will it be the real light or will the computer just think it needs to light the light when it feels like it Wink

5mm on brake pads is about the minimum considering theres upwards of 2.5 tonnes to stop... the problem isn't the thickness of the pads, but the heat dissipation area. £40 is a reasonable price for the kit... jut hope the 'reset' isn't a dealer fix only Rolling Eyes

I want to change the pads before the message comes on, therefore no dealer reset necessary. Hence 5mm is MY limit.

The dealer labour rate of nearly £100 an hour makes it worth while.

i am not teaching you how to suck eggs but just double check the wear indicator wires are fiited correctly when you have changed the pads before you turn the ignition on otherwise it may bring the warning light on and that may require the dealer to turn off. not sure if i am correct in that but its worth a second check anyway

As far as I know it is a dealer job to turn the warning light off!
That was the reason I was given for the light being on on the one I did my LR level one in!
